H World Group Ltd releases 2024 financials

The post H World Group Ltd releases 2024 financials appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Global hospitality firm H World Group Limited released its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended 31st December 2024.

H World continued its significant network expansion, deepening its presence in the Chinese market and expanding its global footprint.

In 2024, H World added 231 new hotels in the upper-mid scale segment, under brands such as Crystal Orange Hotel, Intercity Hotel, Maxx by Steigenberger and Manxin Hotel.

There are 526 upper-midscale hotels in the pipeline, a 32 percent increase over 2023.

Company chief executive Jin Hui said: “In 2024, H World achieved the 10,000-hotel milestone, while continuing our rapid fast network expansion in China. In the year of 2024, Legacy-Huazhu opened over 2,400 new hotels, far exceeding our initial target of 1,800 hotels, supported by our strong brand reputation and excellent product quality. While Legacy-Huazhu’s full-year RevPAR declined slightly year-over-year from a high base the previous year, Legacy-Huazhu maintained a high occupancy rate of 81.2 percent, which we believe is encouraging given the speed of our network expansion. Looking ahead, we will continue to implement our asset-light strategy, pursue high-quality hotel network growth, strengthen brand positioning, and enhance sales capability centered around our H Rewards membership programme.”

Exceptional performance

With regard to the company’s business outside China, H World’s Legacy-DH recorded a 5.9 percent year- on-year RevPAR increase in 2024.

Looking into 2025, H World will continue to enhance its hotel operations, focus on cost reduction and efficiency improvement, and continue developing an asset-light portfolio.

Likewise, EBITDA performance during the period demonstrated underlying profitability of the business, supported by continued growth in high-margin, fee-based revenue.

Despite the impact of impairment losses and one-off restructuring items, fourth quarter adjusted EBITDA totaled US$171 million, up 10.3 percent year-over-year.

Full year adjusted EBITDA totaled US$935 million, an increase of 8.8 percent year-over-year.

Furthermore, the Group continued to enhance its diverse portfolio to meet shifting needs of travelers in key markets.

Loyalty engagement in 2024

Loyalty engagement also continued to grow, with H Rewards membership rising to 267 million.

Contributions from central reservation systems increased four percent year-over-year to almost two thirds of all bookings, reflecting the growing appeal of the H Rewards programme and the company’s digital innovations.

New mobile features, dynamic pricing capabilities, and personalised booking experiences have further strengthened guest engagement and boosted direct booking conversion.

Looking ahead, H World Group remains focused on high-quality, disciplined growth.

With a robust development pipeline, continued upgrades of products and direct sales capabilities, the Group is positioned to drive long-term value and deliver consistent, sustainable performance.

Thai travel agents express concerns regarding Thailand’s arrivals target

The post Thai travel agents express concerns regarding Thailand’s arrivals target appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Officials from the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) expressed concerns that the country may be unable to hit its target of 39 million foreign arrivals for 2025.

ATTA president Sisdivachr Cheewarattanaporn pointed out that the maximum number of foreign arrivals this year could go down to 37 million, two million short of the national target.

Travel agents attribute this decreased forecast to safety concerns among foreign tourists, particularly those from Mainland China.

Concerns lead to lower numbers

It may be recalled that Chinese actor Wang Xing was abducted in Thailand back in January of this year.

As a result, the number of Chinese tourists making their way to the country dropped to 371,542 in February, the lowest it has been in 15 months and reflecting a year-on-year decline of up to 44.9 percent.

At the same time, ATTA highlighted increasing competition from destinations such as Japan and Vietnam, which are drawing more Chinese tourists since they reopened their borders following the pandemic.

In response, Cheewarattanaporn urged the Thai government to prioritise restoring confidence in the country’s safety and security.

The ATTA president explained that clear and consistent law enforcement is crucial to ensuring a smooth experience for all international travelers.

Empty infinity pool on rooftop terrace of Leela Palace Hotel overlooking New Delhi, India

India’s luxury travel sector experiences unprecedented growth, Global Hotel Alliance and two of its hotel brands – The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts and Minor Hotels – have reaffirmed their commitment to the market, unveiling new initiatives to elevate the country’s high-end hospitality landscape.

India is a key development market for GHA, with GHA DISCOVERY loyalty programme membership in the country growing by 18% in 2024 to 623,000 members. The Leela and Minor Hotels are both tapping into this demand with new luxury offerings appealing to high-end Indian travellers.

In a notable shift, international spend by Indian GHA DISCOVERY members (54%) surpassed domestic revenue (46%) for the first time, with Thailand, the UAE, and Singapore as the top international destinations.

The Indian travel market’s significant growth potential was highlighted at two events staged in Delhi this week, with GHA citing recent research and The Leela and Minor Hotels discussing their market strategies and development plans.

Speaking at the Skift India Forum on 18th March, Chris Hartley, CEO, GHA, and Anuraag Bhatnagar, CEO, The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, revealed how luxury hotel brands are responding to India’s burgeoning demand for premium experiences. The conversation continued at a press briefing hosted at The Leela Palace, New Delhi the following day, where Hartley, Bhatnagar and Dillip Rajakarier, CEO, Minor Hotels, highlighted India’s growing influence in global travel and luxury hospitality. These discussions explored key trends, including evolving guest preferences, the impact of loyalty programmes, and the future of ultra-luxury hospitality.

“The rapid growth of India’s luxury travel market is reflected in the soaring engagement of Indian travellers with our brands worldwide,” said Hartley. “With record-breaking stay revenue and membership growth in 2024, we are committed to enriching their experiences through an ever-expanding portfolio of world-class hotels and innovative travel benefits.”

Introducing The Leela’s new ultra-luxury concept: Arq by The Leela

The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts continues to set new benchmarks for luxury with the introduction of Arq at Pichola – an exclusive collection of ultra-luxury villa spaces designed as the ultimate escape for discerning elite from around the world. Debuting at The Leela Palace Udaipur, Arq offers an intimate collection of exclusive accommodations, blending Indian heritage with modern sophistication. This evolution aligns with the growing aspirations of affluent Indian and global travellers seeking tailored, high-end experiences.

“India is at the forefront of a new era in luxury hospitality, driven by its dynamic economy, cultural richness and a discerning new generation of travellers seeking immersive experiences. With Arq, we are elevating ultra-luxury to unprecedented levels by creating bespoke sanctuaries that blend India’s timeless heritage with innovation. As the country cements its position as a premier luxury destination, The Leela remains committed to setting new benchmarks and shaping the future of luxury hospitality on a global stage,” said Anuraag Bhatnagar, Chief Executive Officer of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts.

Minor Hotels expands in India with Anantara’s debut
Minor Hotels recently made its foray into India, launching its first luxury property, Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur, in November 2024. The luxury retreat marks the beginning of an ambitious growth strategy, with plans to open 50 new properties in India over the next decade. With India’s outbound travel forecast to exceed 50 million trips by 2030, Minor Hotels is strategically positioned to cater to this demand across its luxury and premium brands, including Anantara Hotels & Resorts, Avani Hotels & Resorts, and NH Collection.

“The Indian market presents a remarkable opportunity for luxury hospitality, both domestically and internationally,” said Rajakarier. “With Anantara’s debut in Jaipur and our expansion plans, we aim to redefine experiential luxury while deepening our engagement with Indian travellers through our expanding brand portfolio.”

He added: “Indian travellers are increasingly seeking immersive experiences, whether through bespoke wellness retreats, culturally rich stays, or luxury destination weddings. Our strategy is to cater to these evolving preferences by expanding our footprint with brands that align with these aspirations.”

Luxury travel and loyalty in India
There are more GHA hotel rooms in India than ever before, growing to nearly to 3,400 in 2024 to meet the rising demand for luxury stays across the country.
But the alliance’s commitment to India extends beyond its hotel brand presence, as its latest market research reveals. GHA DISCOVERY, which now includes more than 30 million travellers worldwide, is playing a pivotal role in shaping high-end travel trends. Indian members are increasingly engaging with GHA’s ‘Signature Luxury’ hotels, with premium experiences, room upgrades, and the DISCOVERY Dollars (D$) rewards currency ranking among the most valued benefits.

As inbound travel to India flourishes, the country remains a magnet for high-spending travellers, with the US, UK, and Australia leading the top source markets. The combined presence of The Leela and Minor Hotels within GHA’s ecosystem positions them at the forefront of India’s luxury hospitality growth.

Cathay Group releases February 2025 traffic report

The post Cathay Group releases February 2025 traffic report appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

The Cathay Group released its traffic figures for Cathay Pacific, HK Express, and Cathay Cargo on Thursday, 20th March.

February marked another positive month for the Cathay Group, as traffic figures were driven by the return travel peak over the Lunar New Year holiday.

Cathay Pacific and HK Express jointly set a new post-pandemic record on 2nd February by carrying more than 111,000 passengers on a single day.

Cathay’s chief commercial and customer officer Lavinia Lau added:”We are pleased to be adding even more exciting new destinations to our expanding global network as we move closer to exceeding 100 passenger destinations within this year.”

Cathay Pacific will be launching flights to Hyderabad at the end of March, and also recently announced a new non-stop service to Urumqi starting from 28th April.

Meanwhile, HK Express also announced new flights to Komatsu from 24th April, Cheongju from 5th June, Daegu from 6th June, and Miyako (Shimojishima) from 27 June.

In total, 13 new destinations have already been announced for 2025, with more to come.

Lau said: “In addition, we were proud to have our achievements in cargo and sustainability recognised recently with two prestigious awards from Air Transport World. Cathay Cargo earned the title of Cargo Operator of the Year for the second time in three years, and Cathay Pacific was named Eco-Airline of the Year, becoming the first airline in Asia to receive this distinction.”

Passenger traffic in February 2025

Cathay Pacific carried 14.3 percent more passengers in February 2025 compared with February 2024 as Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs) were up by 17 percent.

In the first two months of 2025, the number of passengers carried by Cathay Pacific increased by 25.4 percent compared with the same period for 2024.

Lau said: “Following the Lunar New Year holiday, leisure travel demand softened while business travel demand picked up, driven by various exhibitions and trade events held in late February and early March. This resulted in February seeing a robust load factor in our premium cabins. Looking ahead, we anticipate reduced leisure travel demand from our home market up to the end of March, during which we will continue to leverage our global network to boost transit traffic.”

At the same time, HK Express carried more than 585,000 passengers in February, marking an increase of 32 percent year on year, while Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs) grew by 38 percent.

In the first two months of 2025, the number of passengers carried increased by 39.1 percent compared with the same period for 2024.

Lau explained: “HK Express continued its growth trajectory in February, announcing new additions to its network and operating more flights and capacity. March is going to be a quieter month following the leisure travel peak over the Lunar New Year holiday, though we are looking forward to welcoming three interesting new destinations, namely Nha Trang, Ishigaki, and Komatsu in April.”

Cargo performance in February 2025

Meanwhile, Cathay Cargo carried 11.8 percent more cargo in February 2025 than in February 2024.

Available Freight Tonne Kilometres (AFTKs) increased by 3.5 percent while load factor decreased by 1.4 percentage points year on year. In the first two months of 2025, the total tonnage increased by 12.8 percent compared with the same period for 2024.

Lau said: “Demand from our Hong Kong hub and the wider Greater Bay Area market started slowly due to the Lunar New Year holiday but picked up towards the end of February. We observed continued growth in our Cathay Secure solution, driven by increased shipments of electronics from the Chinese Mainland and Southeast Asia. We were also proud to be the official airline sponsor of the Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show, transporting around 70 of the world’s finest sports horses from Liège and London to Hong Kong, showcasing our expertise and care in transporting live animals.”

She added that, for March, Cathay Cargo expects market demand to pick up as we ramp up our scheduled freighter frequencies to prepare for the quarter end.

According to Lau, the company is keeping a close watch on the volatility of the cargo market, and that they will leverage their built-in flexibility to make necessary adjustments to their network and capacity to capture demand changes.
