TD breaking news – Excite Holidays shuts down agent platform

Excite Holidays ceases taking new bookings.

Excite Holidays will today suspend operations of its platform, with Executive Director, Nicholas Stavropoulos, telling staff the move follows “some challenges of late whilst we were in discussions with potential investors”.

Stavropoulos said that while these talks were still ongoing, “the decision has been made to stop any new bookings being created at this time, pending the outcome of the discussions”.

The normal Excite Holidays travel agent landing page will not be accessible, instead just displaying a banner saying the company has suspended operations while it is in the “final stages of commercial discussions” and advising consultants to email for assistance with existing bookings.

As exclusively revealed in Travel Daily this morning, virtual credit cards issued by Excite Holidays to pay for confirmed bookings are being dishonoured due to lack of available funds, while agents with disrupted customers continue to be advised to get their clients to pay again and then “lodge a service complaint” with the company.

Excite Holidays withdrew from the ATAS accreditation scheme just over 12 months ago.

More details in Travel Daily as they come to hand.
