TD breaking news – Western Australia announces COVID-19 support fund for travel agents

WA agents to share in $3 million industry-specific support fund.

Western Australia has become the first and only state to introduce a dedicated support program for travel agents, with the state’s Tourism Minister Paul Papalia this morning announcing $3 million in funding to help the industry cover operating expenses.

Funded by the state’s COVID-19 Industry Support Fund, the initial rollout of the package will provide up to $5,000 to eligible home-based agents and a minimum of $10,000 for eligible bricks and mortar businesses.

Papalia noted that WA agents had been profoundly impacted by the Federal Government’s international border closure, and had been working tirelessly to secure refunds and travel credits on behalf of customers while being unable to generate income for their businesses.

“The program will support travel agents to continue paying their fixed operating expenses to provide support while the Federal Government formulates a longer term solution,” Papalia said.
