Wel-Travel into liquidation

SPECIALIST Australian inbound travel agency Wel-Travel Australia has been placed into liquidation.

The Perth-based business was established in 1988, and is now led by Edwin Kwan, who is also a director of the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC).

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission notes that liquidators Kimberley Stuart Wallman have been appointed to wind up the business, which also trades as One Book Travel and Incredible Australia.

The Wel-Travel website is still live, and cites a team of about 30 staff and offices in the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth along with an international sales team based in India, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Wel-Travel is also listed by Austrade as an approved inbound tour operator under China’s Approved Destination Scheme.

Details of the reasons for the collapse are unclear at this stage, but it’s expected key suppliers including accommodation, activity and transport operators are likely to be impacted.

The company offered a full service Australia-wide destination management operation for FIT and group travellers, along with business events and incentives and special interest itineraries.

Ironically, Kwan was on the podium last week as one of the presenters at ATEC’s Meeting Place conference – just one day before placing his company into administration.
