Hong Kong’s tourism sector is celebrating a significant rebound as visitor numbers surged over the festive season, driven by the success of mega events at the newly opened Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP).

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) reported a record number of non-Chinese Mainland visitors during the Christmas period, with approximately 50,000 daily arrivals from 25 to 27 December, marking a post-COVID high.

The city’s tourism revival is largely attributed to the KTSP, which has quickly become a hub for major sports and entertainment events since its opening in March 2025.

The centrepiece, the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, ranked third globally and first in Asia for ticket sales in 2025, according to Pollstar; the stadium also ranked fifth worldwide for total gross revenue, generating $191.34 million.

In the numbers

In 2025, Hong Kong welcomed 50 million visitors, a 12 percent increase from the previous year.

This included 38 million visitors from the Chinese Mainland and 12 million from other regions, reflecting an 11 percent and 15 percent year-on-year rise, respectively.

The Euromonitor International Top 100 City Destinations Index 2025 ranked Hong Kong second globally for international arrivals, just behind Bangkok.

Venue of choice on a global scale

The KTSP has hosted over 90 local and international events, attracting more than 7 million visitors.

Notable events included the Hong Kong Sevens, concerts by Coldplay and Jay Chou, and the Hong Kong Football Festival featuring top football clubs.

Looking ahead, the stadium will host global pop sensation BLACKPINK for back-to-back shows later this month.

As Hong Kong continues to draw international attention with its vibrant events calendar, the city’s tourism and mega events economy appears poised for further growth in 2026.
