Cebu Pacific renews IATA Operational Safety Audit Registry entry

Philippine low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific announced that it successfully renewed its IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registry.

This renewal reaffirms the airline’s long-standing commitment to safety in light of its ongoing expansion and rapid growth.

This marks the airline’s first renewal under the more stringent Risk-Based IOSA, a data-driven approach introduced by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to enhance the assessment of airline safety.

Cebu Pacific initially earned its IOSA registration in 2018 and has consistently passed the biennial audit since.

According to airline chief operations officer Javier Massot: “The IOSA renewal reflects the strength of our internal safety processes and the culture of excellence we uphold in our operations. Safety has always been at the core of what we do, and we are proud to meet global benchmarks as we continue to expand our network.”

Sterling credentials

In addition, Cebu Pacific has also merited global recognition for its overall safety performance.

Earlier this month, AirlineRatings.com named the airline one of the world’s Safest Low-Cost Carriers (LCCs), citing its strong safety record, low incident rate, and investment in a modern fleet.

As part of its ongoing fleet modernisation, the airline signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for up to 152 A320neo aircraft last year, the largest in Philippine aviation history.

The purchase further supports Cebu Pacific’s transition to an all-NEO fleet focused on fuel efficiency and sustainability.

LGBTQIA+ travel remains a growth sector in 2025

The post LGBTQIA+ travel remains a growth sector in 2025 appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

As Pride Month draws to a close, we at Travel Daily Media take a good look at how the global LGBTQ!A+ community has served to propel the travel industry into further growth throughout the first half of this year.

As of today, 30th June, global experts estimate that the total worth of the LGBTQIA+ travel sector will be around US$357 billion by the end of this year.

In its forecast, research firm Coherent Market Insights sees the value booming to around US$604.32 billion by 2032 if the current average growth rate (CAGR) of 7.8 percent stays constant for the next seven years.

This surge in growth is easily attributed to a number of factors, but the growing acceptance of LGBTQIA+ individuals throughout the world and the development of travel and hospitality products specifically targeting the market are among the most notable.

Which regions are the most active in terms of  LGBTQIA+ travel?

According to New York-based think tank Reports and Insights, North America is still the top player in the global LGBTQIA+ travel market, as both the United States and Canada lead the way when it comes to demand.

Likewise, North America has the most significant market share which is driven by progressive policies and thriving communities in Canada and the blue states of the US.

In this part of the world, sectoral revenue growth has remained steady, and consumers are drawn in by a diverse range of community-centric travel products on offer which include attendance at pride festivals and event-specific accommodations packages.

In some parts of the region, there are LGBT-welcoming certifications for businesses in the travel and hospitality sectors on top of travel agencies that cater exclusively to the community.

But while business is booming in North America, Europe remains the most diverse landscape when it comes to LGBTQIA+ tourism.

Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain all enjoy a significant share of the market thanks to inclusive environments and world-renowned pride events.

Sectoral growth throughout Europe remains robots, thanks to both acceptance and relevant policies, along with a marked consumer preference for localised queer experiences which has driven the rise of community-friendly businesses within the region.

At the same time, government-backed campaigns promoting LGBT tourism like Iceland’s Pink Iceland initiative have boosted the continent’s reputation as a destination that warmly welcomes community members and supports the growth of related establishments.

Meanwhile, Thailand and Japan are paving the way to make the Asia-Pacific a prime destination for LGBTQIA+ travellers.

Market share in the region has grown significantly over the past few years thanks to increasing acceptance of diverse sexual orientations.

Community members travelling throughout Asia are drawn in by a truly unique range of adventures that combine local tradition with modern sensibilities.

Indeed, as more Asian businesses embrace LGBT inclusivity, we can expect further development in the form of LGBT agencies that will specialise in travel to the region, as well as active promotion on the part of national tourism boards for pride- and inclusivity-driven programmes.

Trends to keep an eye on

As we are now in the midpoint of 2025, there are several trends that those watching the LGBT travel sector need to keep tabs on.

These are the top five earmarked by experts in the industry:

A surge in travel to destinations that openly welcome LGBTQIA+ individuals and their partners

As a greater number of destinations become more welcoming towards the community, the maps of individual travellers is also expanding.

While European destinations like Madrid and Berlin still get major nods from travellers, let’s keep an eye on Australia and New Zealand, as well; aside from Sydney’s famed pride-flavoured Mardi Gras, inclusivity is the name of the game thanks to drag attractions and inclusive communities in Oceania.

Also, while Asia is prime in terms of wellness and medical tourism for members of the community, South American destinations like Uruguay are also worth considering for the next slot in one’s bucket list.

Your next trip will be inspired by something you’ve seen on your socials

While travellers don’t need to slavishly follow the dictates of one influencer or another, social media trends have served to inspire countless travellers regardless of whether they’re gay or straight.

Plus, social media enables travellers to connect with their tribe wherever they may be travelling, giving them access to support channels that offer tips regarding safety on top of standard travel advice.

Social media also helps clue travellers into what events or attractions are within their immediate radar, thereby enriching their overall experience at their destinations.

Introducing specialised gay or queer tours

With personalisation on the rise throughout the travel sector, it really isn’t surprising that there are tours, retreats, and even cruises specifically for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Thanks to companies like Atlantis Events, the Southern Caribbean Adventure, and GaySail, community members are assured of fun experiences in safe spaces where they can freely be themselves.

It also helps that these specialised offerings give participants a different way of looking at familiar destinations.

It’s a [queer] family thing

Travelling with family is one thing, but travelling with the people whom one has chosen to call family is truly special.

Referred to in many places as rainbow family vacations, these fam-centric travels have gone through a glamming up this year thanks to a growing number of gay or queer parents who want their children to interact with other families like theirs.

Serving as a way to build connections within the community, these inclusive vacations have also served to foster understanding and acceptance through gender-neutral booking forms, as well as onsite staff capable of understanding the needs of the evolving family structure regardless of where they may travel.

Introducing the limelight gaycation

Thanks to programmes like Heartstopper and Fire Island, there has been a boom in travel to the cities and destinations that they feature.

For one thing, couples want to experience the same romance that they saw on their screens for themselves; for another, television and streaming media continue to heighten the visual appeal of these destinations and the unique cultures that call them home.

As a result, businesses in these destinations have also been keen to cash in on the growing number of LGBTQIA+ travellers making their way over.

However, this trend comes with a caveat: no matter how safe a destination may appear on the screen, it always helps to do the research on its overall safety well before flying or sailing in.

Cathay Cargo successfully ships terracotta warriors and related artefacts to Australia

The post Cathay Cargo successfully ships terracotta warriors and related artefacts to Australia appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Cathay Cargo takes pride in having transported ten terracotta army figures and over 200 artefacts from Xi’an to Perth via Hong Kong for the now ongoing Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor exhibition.

This breathtaking historical display was organised by the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration with support from the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Centre, the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, and the Western Australian (WA) Museum Boola Bardip.

WA Museum Boola Bardip’s director for museums and exhibitions Jason Fair declared: “What makes this exhibition unique and the first of its kind is its impressive collection of priceless artefacts. Most of the objects have never been seen in Australia before, with nearly half leaving China for the first time. It is our mission to inspire curiosity. We hope people gain an understanding of the culture, history and people of China as well as this pivotal moment in Chinese history.”

A painstakingly careful shipment

The transportation of these priceless cultural treasures demonstrates Cathay Cargo’s expertise in handling special cargo, and its commitment to excellence and precision in moving invaluable cultural treasures.

Leveraging its Cathay Expert and Cathay Secure specialist solutions, Cathay Cargo worked closely with the shipment custodians and cargo agent partners to develop a customised transportation plan tailored to the unique nature of the cargo and the specific packaging requirements provided by the customer.

The plan meticulously addressed every detail to ensure the safe and secure storage, transport and delivery of these irreplaceable pieces of history, all under the watchful eyes of CCTV surveillance and Cathay Cargo’s highly trained professionals.

According to Cathay director of cargo Tom Owen: “The terracotta warriors are among China’s most iconic cultural treasures. It is a great privilege to help bring Chinese culture to the world by transporting these important relics from their home in Xi’an to Perth for the exhibition, ensuring their safe transport at every step of their journey.”

Owen added that transporting these unique pieces of history involved meticulous preparation and close collaboration between Cathay’s teams, partners and authorities in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and Australia to ensure every detail was carefully considered.

He thus enthused: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase Cathay Cargo’s expertise in handling special cargo and demonstrate that ‘We Know How’.”

Putting a plan in action

While the statues and artefacts originate in Xi’an, they were first transported to Zhengzhou where they were then flown to Australia via Cathay’s Hong Kong hub and transported to their final destination in Perth.

The Cathay Cargo team oversaw the inventory check and packaging process from the initial stage in Xi’an.

The shipment was then tracked via GPS from departure in Xi’an until arrival at Zhengzhou Airport, whereupon the cargo was directed to a dedicated delivery zone and security channel.

Cathay Cargo developed a tailored build-up plan based on the customer’s loading diagrams to ensure the utmost care was rendered.

Safety nets and straps were used to secure the artefacts, preventing any movement during transit; meanwhile, experienced pallet build-up specialists also provided guidance on-site, while Cathay Cargo personnel maintained full oversight end-to-end.

The shipments were loaded in precise alignment with the customer’s specifications to minimise impact from take-off and landing, and were continuously monitored under real-time surveillance throughout the ground-handling process.

Delving into the Louvre staff strike: overtourism takes its toll on a centre of culture

The post Delving into the Louvre staff strike: overtourism takes its toll on a centre of culture appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Massive queues slowly snake their way to The Louvre in the blistering summer heat (AP)

It may only have been for a day, but the employees’ strike at The Louvre in Paris underscores the severe impact that overtourism has on even the world’s biggest attractions.

To backtrack: on 16th June, the entire staff at the famed museum walked out of their jobs, much to the consternation of tourists and officials, in a wildcat strike against a double-whammy of overtourism and deteriorating working conditions.

The strike came a day after protesters throughout Southern Europe made their way to the streets to demand government action against the increasingly adverse effects of overtourism on local communities and their standard of living.

In a report by the Associated Press that has since been syndicated globally, the mass walkout began following dissent during a routine staff assembly as the workday began on 16th June.

As a result, regardless of the fact that crowds of tourists were already milling about outside in the heat of the noonday sun, The Louvre remained closed until 2:30 in the afternoon; even then, the number of those allowed inside were strictly limited.

Christian Galani, a spokesperson for French labour union CGT-Culture whose members include employees at The Louvre, declared: “We didn’t plan to go on strike, but the people are so exhausted, they can’t support the conditions getting worse and worse.”

It’s all too much

Per reports, Louvre staff gathered for their monthly assembly at around 10 in the morning local time on the 16th, but people walked out instead of returning to their posts.

The surprising tipping point that drove them to a mass walkout: the increasingly obvious issue of overcrowding around the museum’s most famous artifact on display, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Approximately, 20,000 people come to see the world’s most famous smile six days a week, jamming themselves into Le Salle des États, The Louvre’s largest hall.

But rather than silently appreciating the work of a Renaissance master, visitors to the Mona Lisa behave as if they were at a theme park: voices calling to one another loudly, jostling and jockeying to get the best angle for a snapshot, selfies left and right, and essentially posing the danger of physical damage to both artwork on display and fellow museum visitors.

Museum officials have long pointed out that people only come to the museum for the Mona Lisa, to the exclusion of other great works of art and momentous archaeological finds; it’s a matter that has been both overwhelming, exhausting, and worrying as massive crowds alter the temperature of display halls, potentially endangering precious artefacts of human history.

While the French government has been assuring museum officials and staff of their support by way of a ten-year redevelopment plan, those on the frontlines demand immediate action to address ongoing problems.

According to one of the museum’s visitor service agents Sarah Sefian: “We can’t wait six years for help. Our teams are under pressure now. It’s not just about the art: it’s about the people protecting it.”

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the upcoming general refurbishment and organisational restructuring of The Louvre in January of this year, but insiders pointed out that no action has been taken since the announcement.

CGT-Culture’s Galani explained that one key point of détente was the fact that over 200 positions have been vacated over the past 15 years, and that staff feel ill-equipped to deal with the massive crowds who have surged in following the relaxing of pandemic restrictions since 2023.

Galani said: “Nothing has changed; there are still too many visitors, and the rooms are in very bad condition. It’s very difficult for the workers.”

Why overtourism is bad for museums

Most travellers tend to forget one fundamental thing: crowds will raise the ambient temperature of an area, especially if it is an enclosed space like that of a museum gallery.

There is a reason why climate control is necessary in museums and art galleries: if presented in areas that are either too hot or too cold, the structural integrity of pieces, especially those over several decades or even centuries old.

The same thing goes for architectural finds regardless of whether these are fragments of ancient manuscripts or preserved human remains as in the case of either Egyptian or Peruvian mummies: display areas are kept at a certain temperature and the number of people who may gain access to them at any given time are strictly limited.

In addition, overtourism is equal to overcrowding which, in turn, leads to a diminished experience for many museum-goers whose enjoyment and appreciation of art is ruined by influencers noisily doing livestreams or tourists elbowing others out to get the perfect selfie.

At the same time, overtourism has resulted in increased maintenance costs as crowds wear on historic infrastructure, and there is an ever-present danger of vandalism as seen in the behaviour of younger travellers over the past several years.

Protecting artwork against vandalism has also taken a toll on museum security and curatorial staff in light of the way radicals from the group Just Stop Oil have been actively destroying priceless works of art, and the way ill-educated tourists have tried to put a personal stamp on destinations by carving marks into statues and structures.

While the French government continues to give assurance that corrective measures will be taken, museum staff are taking it with a grain of salt; but The Louvre strike which closed the doors of the world’s foremost museum to the public should be seen as a cautionary tale to their peers in the cultural management sector with regard to how badly overtourism may affect them in the long run.
