Cathay Pacific partners with  Sinopec

The post Cathay Pacific partners with  Sinopec appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Cathay Pacific  announced it has entered into an agreement with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) to refuel some of its flights departing from Hong Kong International Airport with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced and blended with conventional aviation fuel by Sinopec, demonstrating the expanding reach of SAF produced in the Chinese Mainland in the global SAF supply chain.

The airline uplifted a batch of SAF produced by the Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company (ZRCC) at Hong Kong International Airport in April. ZRCC is one of the leading SAF manufacturers in Asia to independently develop bio-jet fuel technology. This batch of SAF was converted from used cooking oil using the hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA) pathway. As part of the first batch of SAF exported by ZRCC to Hong Kong, it has been certified by International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) that it can reduce the lifecycle carbon emissions by about 80%, compared with conventional jet fuel.

What is SAF?

SAF is an alternative aviation fuel produced from waste materials or other non-fossil carbon sources. As demonstrated by this batch, SAF has the potential to significantly lower its lifecycle carbon emissions as compared with fossil fuels, helping address the environmental impact of passenger and cargo air transport. This agreement with Sinopec demonstrates the potential for further cooperation between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong in the SAF supply chain.

Adoption of SAF from the Chinese Mainland

Cathay General Manager Sustainability Grace Cheung said: “Our purchase and use of SAF products from ZRCC goes beyond just a fuel uplift; it marks our initiative to expand the upstream and downstream value chain of SAF produced in the Chinese Mainland. Through cooperation with Sinopec, we hope to support greater adoption of SAF produced in the Chinese Mainland and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.”

Last year, Cathay Pacific also adopted two batches of SAF from the Chinese Mainland, which were uplifted at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and London Heathrow Airport respectively.

Looking to the future

In recent years, the production and adoption of SAF has gained momentum across Asia.  Cathay Pacific is working closely with different partners with the aim to expand the use of SAF in Asia. In March 2025, Cathay Pacific reached an agreement with fuel supplier SK Energy, which will supply SAF to Cathay Pacific from 2025 to 2027 in South Korea. At the same time, Cathay Pacific will continue to draw on its own experience to support Hong Kong to scale up SAF usage with supportive policy, in order to further strengthen Hong Kong International Airport’s status as a leading international aviation hub.

This achievement recognises the dedication of our entire team to making a real difference in the hospitality industry contributing to a greener future. We see this not just as a milestone, but as a motivator to continue setting new standards for sustainable travel in London.”

Additionally, after submitting data for the Camden Climate Alliance’s 2024 Annual Report, The Wesley has also been recognised with two Carbon Certification Schemes, an earned certification that certifies a specific standard for reducing or removing carbon emissions has been achieved.

They have also earned an Engagement Certification: Team Green, which was awarded to them after developing and delivering a good staff engagement programme around sustainability issues which has been successfully running for at least six months.

The Wesley operates across two Central London hotels; The Wesley Euston is a 100-room hotel situated just steps from Euston Station, complete with a restaurant/ kitchen and bar, meeting rooms and spaces, as well as a new gym. As such, this campaign invites Thai and international tourists to explore top landmarks and hidden gems while celebrating Thai culture, nature, and local charm.

Grab’s digital platform powers the experience, making every journey smooth, connected, and worry-free.

Their influence is already showing results, with the campaign’s media blitz topping X’s trending list, drawing over 2.3 million engagements and more than a million reposts within the first 24 hours.

Their strong pan-Asian following is expected to further boost tourism, especially from key regional markets like China.

City exploration made more enjoyable

Trafalgar expands into European river cruises, with two journeys starting April 2026

The post Trafalgar expands into European river cruises, with two journeys starting April 2026 appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Trafalgar, one of the world’s most established travel companies, is expanding into the river cruises market and will debut its new waterborne offerings in Europe in April 2026 – two spectacular river cruise journeys along the Danube and Rhine Rivers.

The eight-day Best of the Danube and 10-day Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam cruises will operate from April through to October 2026, with Trafalgar having opened bookings to travel agents from 6 May 2025 – ahead of the general public – to allow them the chance to secure preferred sailing dates.

The full schedules of the two new European river cruises, which offer back-to-back sailings in both directions, can be seen at www.trafalgar.com/en-sg. The Best of the Danube cruise starts at US$2,799 per person based on double occupancy, and the Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam cruise at US$3,399 per person based on double occupancy.

“We’ve always been about making it easy for travellers to connect with the heart and soul of every destination. Now, we’re bringing that same philosophy and unmatched experience – valued by our travel advisor partners, to Europe’s iconic rivers,” said Nick Lim, CEO, Asia of The Travel Corporation, Trafalgar’s parent company.

“Our strategy is simple: unlock the best of Europe’s rivers through trusted Trafalgar touchpoints including our much-loved ‘Be My Guest’ and ‘MAKE TRAVEL MATTER’ Experiences, giving travellers a fun, new way to river cruise that is as enriching as it is responsible.”

Trafalgar’s river cruises in Europe will be operated by two 128-passenger ‘floating hotels’ – the Trafalgar Verity and Trafalgar Reverie. These have been designed to offer comfortable, effortless travel for guests, and will boast one of the highest staff-to-guest ratios on Europe’s rivers.

They offer a choice of cabin categories – Suite, French Balcony, Deluxe and Classic. Every stateroom has a river view, offering an enchanting look at the vineyards, castles and riverside towns along the journey.

Trafalgar is promising that its river cruises in Europe will offer the same authentic local experiences and commitment to genuine connections, hidden gems, and responsible travel practices that its land tours have become known for.

“We can’t wait to share that same feeling of ease and comfort, local connection and joy of discovery we’re going to bring to Europe’s rivers aboard our two beautiful ships, the Trafalgar Reverie and Trafalgar Verity,” said The Travel Corporation’s Lim.

The Best of the Danube and Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam cruises will feature signature Trafalgar moments. These include Local Specialists offering deep destination insights, opportunities to connect with locals through ‘Be My Guest’ encounters and at least one MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience that supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Along of course with onboard entertainment – from regional performances to inhouse baking demonstrations, wellness activities – from yoga sessions to complimentary bicycle use on offshore excursions, and delicious dining.

A mix of history, culture and local traditions, the Best of the Danube cruise aboard the Trafalgar Reverie travels from Budapest to Passau, visiting Bratislava, Vienna and Linz along the way.

Alternatively there’s a foodie tour diving into the city’s vibrant culinary scene to taste local favourites. There’s also an Optional Experience to explore the Jewish district. There’s an alternative option to take a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience and uncover life under Communism with stories of escapes, Soviet rule and the Velvet Revolution. An Optional Experience takes in Bratislava Castle for sweeping Danube views. In the evening the cruise passes by the southern foothills of the Little Carpathian Mountains and crosses the border to enjoy views of Lower Austria.

Options here include an exploration into the life of Mozart, or visiting a traditional coffee house and tasting Vienna’s famous cafe culture. Two Optional Experiences in the afternoon are a visit to Schönbrunn Palace, the opulent summer home of the Habsburgs, or a foodie tour to enjoy strudels, schnitzels and other Viennese favourites.

A morning walking tour travels the old town’s cobbled streets, or there’s a hike along the scenic Ilz River. In the afternoon is an optional Bavarian beer, pretzel and music experience.

Optional extensions to the eight-day cruise are possible in Prague and Budapest, allowing for further discovery of this enchanting region of Europe.

There’s also an Optional Experience to sample local brews on a Cologne Beer Experience, or a visit to the Michael Schumacher Private Collection – a must for motorsport fans.

Okada Manila observes World Hunger Day by donating 20,000 meals

The post Okada Manila observes World Hunger Day by donating 20,000 meals appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Integrated resort Okada Manila showed its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility through the donation of 20,000 meals to underserved communities across Metro Manila to commemorate World Hunger Day on 28th May.

This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines which aims to bring about Zero Hunger and Zero Food Waste by 2030.

Since the partnership began in May of last year, Okada Manila has become the first integrated resort in the country to engage in large-scale food rescue as it recovers safe surplus food from its Medley Buffet and banquet operations to give to families in need.

The effort has generated significant impact over the past year:

  • Meals served to communities: 20,000
  • Food rescued and donated: 5,000 kg
  • Communities served: 12 across Metro Manila
  • Carbon emissions reduced: 12,000 kg

Okada Manila’s current beneficiaries include Project Pearls Tondo, Hospicio de San Jose, Rivaras Community Pantry, Betterworld Tondo, CM Most Holy Trinity, Barangay Sto. Niño in Parañaque City, BJMP San Mateo Rizal (Male and Female Dorms), Pangarap Foundation, Phase 7 South Fairway (San Pedro, Laguna), Project Marikeños, and WeCarePH in Marikina.

No wastage means no one goes hungry

According to resort culinary director Josef Teuschler: “Food should never go to waste, especially when hunger is among the world’s pressing problems. Through this programme, we’ve integrated surplus food donation into our daily operations, reducing waste while supporting communities that need it most. It’s a practical, high-impact way to live out our ESG values.”

The initiative is also part of the Waste Management pillar of the Okada Green Heart program, which drives environmentally responsible practices across the resort’s operations.

In doing so, it contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Okada Manila also supported the SOS Zero Summit 2025, serving as a resource speaker for Surplus Food as a Force for Social and Environmental Good.

SOS Philippines general manager Rachel Luna said: “Okada Manila’s strong commitment has helped us reach more communities and expand our food rescue impact. It’s a meaningful partnership built on shared values.”

Through consistent action and collaboration, Okada Manila is working to ensure that good food finds its way to those who need it most, one meal at a time.
