Leechiu Property Consultants: Domestic travel boosting Philippine tourism sector

The post Leechiu Property Consultants: Domestic travel boosting Philippine tourism sector appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Philippine real estate advisory firm Leechiu Property Consultants (LPC) reports that domestic travel is what’s spurring on the ongoing recovery of the Philippine travel industry.

During the presentation of its Q2-2025 Philippine Property Market Report on Thursday, 10th July, in Makati, LPC executives pointed out that revenues earned from the domestic tourism sector have made up for the shortfall in international arrivals.

According to LPC’s director for hotels, tourism, and leisure Alfred Lay: “Domestic travel can do that for a long time, and the long-term goal for domestic tourism would probably be to double the market size within the next five to 10 years.”

Lay pointed out that domestic tourism expenditure in 2024 reached PHP3.16 trillion, surpassing the pre-pandemic level of PHP3.14 trillion in 2019.

International tourism expenditures, on the other hand, stood at PHP699 billion, up from PHP600 billion pre-pandemic levels, despite missing the 2024 targets.

A well-considered forecast

Following his presentation, Lay remarked that he expects inbound arrivals this year to reach at least six million.

He noted that the arrival of South Korean visitors, the Philippines’ top market, has seen a decline in the past five months, likely due to the negative media coverage in South Korea over security issues in the country.

Despite this, however, long-haul tourists are increasing and have offset the decline.

The LPC report also saw a 19 percent decline in Korean arrivals from January to May 2025, falling from 682,000 in the first half of 2024 to 552,000.

On the other hand, inbound arrivals from the United States, Japan, Australia, and Canada surged between nine and 19.4 percent.

Lay further explained that additional routes and flight frequencies may also be expected to sustain this upward momentum.

The matter of affordability

Lay also addressed recent news reports regarding the affordability of travel to the Philippines, stating that the country only ranks in the middle of the pack in terms of hotel average daily rates (ADR) compared to its Southeast Asian neighbours and competitors.

The report pointed out that the Philippines ranks fourth in hotel ADR at PHP6,048, with Thailand (PHP8,171), Cambodia (PHP6,591), and Vietnam (PHP6,359) in the top three places.

Lay said: “I would say that we’re still very price competitive across the region, and we will continue to be so for quite a long time.. As we scale, we improve our infrastructure, our transportation costs come down, that will keep us relevant and will improve our numbers over the mid to long-term.”

Dining into wellness at Chiva-Som Hua Hin

The post Dining into wellness at Chiva-Som Hua Hin appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Believe it or not, one of the things that affects anyone’s decision to go on a wellness retreat is actually the quality of the food offered at the destination.

But for guests making their way to Chive-Som Hua Hin, an exceptional gustatory experience awaits them, one far removed from the dietary privation that has become a punchline when it comes to wellness cuisine.

While nutritionally-balanced, every meal served at Thailand’s leading wellness destination is characterised by an exquisite interplay of flavour, texture, and culinary mastery as Travel Daily Media’s own Gary Marshall will attest.

As Gary puts it: “Dining at Chiva-Som was always a pleasant surprise. From breakfast to dinner, we were treated to sumptuous meals that I am sure were prepared with great care. It’s good to know that, based on the interviews we had with in-house wellness advisors at the beginning of the stay, the dishes served were appropriate to our nutritional needs. In my case, these were foods that would help recovery whilst boosting immunity and vitality.”

Chiva-Som Hua Hin also offers two dietary options specifically developed for those in need of a hard physical reset or a detoxification from stressful environs.

These are:

  • The Gut-healing Diet, an option that centres on the use of fibre and probiotics to improve a guest’s gut biome, thereby improving their digestive function in a much safer way than a crash or fad diet; and
  • The Cleansing Diet which is a multi-stage process that ensures the removal of toxins and pollutants from the body through clean eating and adjustments to one’s nutritional intake.

From earth to table

Farm-to-table cuisine has long been synonymous with the global sustainability movement, but it is also in sync with Chiva-Som Hua Hin’s long-time ethos on holistic wellness.

Freshness is one of the key characteristics of the food served at the resort: after all, the quality of fresh produce deteriorates in the process of shipping it from farms to retailers, then again from the retailer to the kitchen.

Here, thanks to gardens strategically located within the resort grounds, staff raise the fruit, vegetables, and even herbs that will make their way into the hands of expert chefs who will transform them into wholesome, flavourful meals.

Add the fact that the produce gardens at Chiva-Som Hua Hin are certified organic by IFOAM-Organics International, and guests are assured that nothing that would be detrimental to their well-being may be found in their food.

Plus, seasonal eating makes the gustatory experience more exciting as menus shift in variety based on what produce is currently at its best in terms of freshness, ripeness, and quality.

Two exceptional dining venues

Likewise, guests are spoilt for choice as Chiva-Som Hua Hin is home to two establishments that offer extensive menus featuring a range of specialities that run from traditional treats to contemporary delights.

At Taste of Siam, Chiva-Som changes the game when it comes to beachfront dining, as guests may opt to dine within the cool interiors or right outside to catch the fresh sea breezes.

Breakfast here is served a la minute, prepared fresh in the open kitchen to one’s specifications.

Taste of Siam is also an excellent place to have lunch or dinner as it offers a choice between health-smart but exceptionally delectable versions of Thai classics, as well as a number of international specialities.

For those seeking a more refined dining experience, The Emerald Room opens its doors and offers a sumptuous pescatarian menu that highlights the freshly-caught bounty of the sea.

More adventurous diners also make their way to The Emerald Room for its popular steamboat menu which is both a fun and healthy way to enjoy the best that nature has to offer in terms of fresh ingredients.

Healthy eating beyond one’s stay

The beauty of Chiva-Som Hua Hin is that it goes beyond the temporary respite that many wellness facilities offer and more towards ensuring that each guest comes away with a curated plan for an improved lifestyle.

This extends to their diets as, thanks to wellness advisors who take a careful look at the physical condition of each guest, recommendations are made as what best to eat moving forward in order to stay well and healthy.

Plus, for those who want to bring the flavours of Chiva-Som Hua Hin to their homes in Thailand and beyond, the resort’s online boutique offers a range of tasty treats from infused honey and lemongrass tea to virgin coconut oil and delectable biscuits to change up one’s breaktime fare.

For more information regarding the services, amenities, and accommodations at Chiva-Som Hua Hin, be sure to visit their official website.

BA wants to see UK added to China’s visa waiver scheme

The post BA wants to see UK added to China’s visa waiver scheme appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

British Airways (BA) would like to see Britain added to China’s growing list of countries eligible for its 30-day visa-free scheme to increase demand after suspending its Beijing flights last year.  China has been steadily extending its 30-day visa waiver scheme. As of June, it included 55 countries. It does not include Britain, although British passport holders last year were included in a 240-hour transit visa-free policy.

“We’re working with the UK government and diplomatically with the China government around seeing if we can get the UK into that programme,” the airline’s Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, Neil Chernoff, told media in Shanghai.

“I think that that’s one way that we can improve demand.”

British Airways suspended flights to Beijing in October, one of several foreign carriers that pulled Chinese services as they struggle with a ban on flying over Russian airspace and a slower than expected rebound in Chinese travel after the pandemic.

Longer flights around Russia mean higher fuel and crew costs, and aircraft utilisation is lower, putting airlines that cannot overfly Russia at a disadvantage to Chinese carriers that can take those shorter routes.

“In a place like China, which is not subject to the same restrictions we have in the UK, they can obviously offer a more competitive product because their flight times are less,” Chernoff said.

British Airways, which still flies daily to Shanghai and Hong Kong, is constantly evaluating whether to bring back its Beijing route. Demand has not caught up with increasing supply since the pandemic, Chernoff said.

British Airways has a joint venture with state-owned China Southern and on Wednesday said it was deepening it by allowing frequent flier points to be collected and redeemed by both sides.

Top 2025 summer getaways: Emirates

The post Top 2025 summer getaways: Emirates appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

As international travel reaches a fever pitch this summer, Emirates’ latest analysis of global booking data* and search patterns reveals where travellers are dreaming of and escaping to in July and August, with a shift towards new cultural experiences and off-the-beaten-track locales.

Flight searches for summer travel have climbed 7% compared to last year, with France leading the charge, experiencing a remarkable 35% increase in outbound travel searches, followed by Ireland, Canada and Saudi Arabia. Germany and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also seeing strong momentum, highlighting robust travel intent across key markets.

In 2025, a few breakout stars have emerged as the top summer destinations for Emirates, and they’re largely concentrated in the Far East, Indian Ocean and Europe.

Emirates’ summer hotspots

Vietnam has emerged as this summer’s ‘it’ destination, stealing the spotlight with a robust 61% leap in interest, and an uplift in booking demand. Emirates flies to three points in Vietnam with 25 weekly flights: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and in June this year, the airline launched services to Da Nang via Bangkok, with flight times that offer seamless connections to/from major European cities and key American hubs.

Vietnam’s vibrant third metropolis is a gateway to a trio of UNESCO World Heritage treasures and over 3,000km of untouched coastline. For culinary adventurers, Vietnamese cuisine is a story in every bite. From bustling street food markets to hidden local gems, the country’s dining scene promises an unforgettable experience.

Close behind, the island nation of Mauritius continues to charm travellers, with searches for flights rising 41% as the second most in-demand destination on the Emirates network this summer. The airline offers two convenient daily flights on its iconic A380s; while Sri Lanka has seen a 32% increase as a clear favourite for its rich cultural tapestry, pristine beaches, ‘tea country’ and affordable luxury experiences.

Japan continues its magnetic pull on global explorers, growing 28% in flight searches compared to last year, with its unique culture, stunning landscapes, modern cities, and delectable cuisine blending balance and artistry. Emirates operates 21 weekly flights to three Japanese points – Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Osaka.

The timeless allure of France rounds out the top five with a solid 25% boost, and Emirates is helping meet traveller demand this summer, serving Paris with 21 weekly flights, including 3 daily A380 flights; a daily A380 service to Nice; and a daily A350 flight to Lyon.

The science of wanderlust: booking data and travel choices

In the UAE, Emirates has seen a 13% rise in flight searches overall, and airline has witnessed a year-on-year increase for searches to destinations like Sri Lanka, Jordan, France, India, Lebanon, and Morrocco. Travellers from the US flying Emirates have been increasingly focusing their searches on African points like Egypt, Kenya and South Africa, while UK travellers are searching 12% more than last year on emirates.com, with increasing interest to far flung destinations like New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka and Mauritius.

Indian travellers seek more opportunities to venture out to Australia, New Zealand and Ireland in 2025, while the airline notes that Australian travellers are focusing on their European summer plans, with a rise in searches to France and the UK. Over the past year, German travellers are drawn eastbound with higher search levels to Japan, Vietnam, South Korea and the Seychelles.

Summer traditionally skews for longer breaks, particularly for Emirates travellers from India, Australia, the UK and Germany who stretch their getaways into extended escapes – close to a third of them travel for more than a month, while those from the US opt for 2-3 week stays for their summer getaways.

The diversity of Dubai’s summer visitors

Emirates forecasts healthy inbound passenger traffic to Dubai during the summer months this year, demonstrating the ongoing global appeal of the city as a ‘must visit’ destination year-round.

Solo Travelers dominate nearly half of all US, Indian, and Australian visitors, mixing business with leisure during stays averaging just over one week.

Family Travel tells different stories by nationality. About one-third of US and Indian visitors travel as families, though preferences diverge—Indian families favour shorter getaways while American families typically explore Dubai for 1-2 weeks. UK families represent the majority of British visitors, often extending their Dubai experience beyond two weeks.

Couples form another significant segment. Younger Australian and German couples embrace extended stays ranging from two weeks to an entire month, maximising their time to discover Dubai.
