CRISIL has upgraded the long-term rating and corporate credit rating (CCR) of Thomas Cook (India) Limited (TCIL) to ‘CRISIL AA/Stable’ from ‘CRISIL AA-/Positive’. The short-term rating has been reaffirmed at ‘CRISIL A1+’. Mahesh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Thomas Cook (India) Limited said: “This upgrade in CRISIL’s long term rating to ‘AA/Stable’  represents the highest credit rating in Thomas Cook India’s history. Also, this is the highest credit rating for any travel and tourism company in India. As leaders in India’s travel & tourism industry, it also reflects the Company’s growth in earnings, strong balance sheet, long-term resilience and sustainability measures – coupled with the upgrade in our parent company’s credit rating to ‘A-/Stable’.

The upgraded rating for TCIL also recognises the continued trust and commitment of Fairfax Financial Holdings to the Thomas Cook India Group. As we look ahead, this recognition enhances our ability to scale with confidence and deliver greater value to our customers and stakeholders.”

The Thomas Cook India Group reported a healthy 11% revenue growth y-o-y to ₹8,251 crore in FY25 (from ₹7,405 crore in FY24), driven by strong demand across business lines. The travel segment—accounting for over 75% of total revenues—led the surge with 15% growth to ₹6,469 crore, Forex and Hospitality grew by 8% and 10% respectively.

Structural cost reduction initiatives, including automation and branch optimisation have contributed to improved operating margins and enhanced return on capital employed (ROCE), thereby strengthening the Group’s financial risk profile. The financial risk profile has also improved following sustained healthy operating performance, as reflected in its adequate capital structure and strong liquid surpluses.

Improved liquidity of the Thomas Cook India Group: with estimated cash and bank balance of Rs 2,070 crore as on March 31, 2025 (unencumbered balance is ~Rs.700 crore), along with annual cash accrual estimated above Rs. 300 crore. Cash and cash equivalents continue to be strong, supporting both investment and operational requirements. CRISIL expects the financial metrics to remain healthy with consistent cash accruals and disciplined capital management.

The upgrade in rating follows the rating upgrade on the debt facilities of the parent, Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (Fairfax) by S&P Global Ratings to ‘A-/Stable’ from ‘BBB+/Positive’.

CRISIL Ratings has combined the business and financial risk profiles of TCIL and its subsidiaries, including Sterling Holiday Resorts Ltd (Sterling), TC Tours Ltd (CRISIL AA-/Stable/CRISIL A1+), Travel Corporation India Ltd (CRISIL AA/Stable), SOTC Travel Ltd (CRISIL AA/Stable/CRISIL A1+), Travel Circle International Ltd, Horizon Travel Services LLC, Travel Circle International (Mauritius) Ltd, and Digi-photo Entertainment Imaging group (DEI). This is because all these entities, collectively referred to as the Thomas Cook India group (or “Group”), are strategically important to, and have considerable operational integration with TCIL.

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) announces the appointment of Avinash  Kanti Teelock as its new Director, effective as from 30th May 2025. 

With over a decade of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry, Teelock brings a strategic  vision and dynamic leadership style to one of the country’s most vital sectors.

Teelock has held senior roles in some of Mauritius’s most prominent hospitality groups, including  Attitude Hotels, where he served as Key Account Manager from 2017 to 2023. In this role, he led client  relations and sales initiatives, driving growth through international partnerships and tailored market  strategies.

Prior to this, he worked as a Cluster Sales Executive at Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa, managing sales efforts  across luxury properties with a strong focus on MICE tourism and high-end clientele. He began his career in  the sector as a Sales and Marketing Executive with Beachcomber Hotels, where he developed a deep  understanding of brand positioning and guest experience.

A graduate of the University of Manchester, Mr. Teelock holds a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Language,  Business, and Management (Chinese). He is fluent in English and French, with advanced proficiency in  Mandarin, reflecting a strong capacity for engaging with key Asian tourism markets.

The Emirates Group’s annual flagship innovation and technology forum, ForsaTEK, is once again bringing cutting-edge technology partnerships, dynamic start-ups, thought-provoking discussions, and emerging talent developing game-changing concepts to the fore.

ForsaTEK has expanded its reach this year to drive greater innovation engagement across the Group’s different departments and businesses, focusing on scaling successful trials to extract the full value of promising innovation and solutions. This year, the annual forum’s themes highlight how AI, robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) will reshape aviation, in addition to the role human factors play in successful adoption of technology.

ForsaTEK was officially opened by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group, who was accompanied by  Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education for the UAE, amongst senior Emirates Group executives for an official tour of innovation showcases.

Technology showcases and driving start-up growth

This year, ForsaTEK featured over 40 in-house and partner showcases, strategically organised across the innovation pipeline spectrum, from early-stage research and prototyping, to proof-of-concept trials, and fully launched initiatives being scaled up.

Fully launched initiatives included Transguard and Emirates Group Security’s advanced autonomous robotics to enhance urban safety and security; dnata Cargo’s autonomous drone system for inventory validation; dnata’s 3D prototyping and custom manufacturing of spare parts; Emirates Airport Services’ AI-enabled aircraft turnaround analysis and resource optimisation system, amongst other aviation and customer-centric innovations.

The Trial Zone included several accessibility initiatives including Glidance’s groundbreaking self-guided mobility aid enabling safe, independent navigation for the visually impaired; the JeffCAN immersive media chair, blending sensory design and technology to support and engage neurodiverse passengers; the Airbus Accessible and Inclusive cabin featuring a Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) lavatory and personal wheelchair onboard. Maintenance and engineering trials featured an AI and computer vision platform for fast, accurate engine part detection and identification; Apple Vision Pro-based augmented reality maintenance for enhanced visualisation of brake, wheel, and APU assemblies, and drone-based aircraft inspections, for fast, safe, and accurate aircraft exterior inspections.

A pitch zone also featured 13 start-ups showcasing their ideas to a panel of VIPs, investors, and tech industry representatives. People and youth engagement areas within the Experience Zone were also activated to showcase innovation journeys and enhance visitor engagement.

Sarah Al Amiri, UAE Minister of Education delivered ForsaTEK 2025’s opening keynote, focused around the ‘disruption of technology on public education’. The UAE recently announced the integration of AI into all levels of school curricula to prepare the nation’s youth for a world increasingly shaped by a rapidly evolving tech landscape, as well as positioning the UAE as a major global player in artificial intelligence.

The event’s exciting programme also included world-renowned tech experts and academics like Dr. Mark Esposito, Geostrategist and Advisor at the World Economic Forum and Harvard University Innovation Researcher delving into topics like reinventing and remobilisation of technology strategies; ‘Imagineering with Disney’; Younes Bensouda Mourri, Professor of AI at Stanford University who discussed rethinking human intelligence in an AI powered world; humanoid robots; and the future impact of AI on society and human advancement with Shekhar Kapur, Oscar-nominated filmmaker and AI philosopher.

At ForsaTEK 2025, the Emirates Group’s Afkar app was also launched. Afkar, which means ‘ideas’ in Arabic, is a company-wide digital platform that allows employees – wherever they work and whatever they do – to play their part in generating new ideas for implementation. The winning concept unveiled at this year’s event was the automation of visa validation for customers, removing yet another source of friction for passengers during their travel journeys.

Day 4: Andermatt → Lake Lucerne

Departing Andermatt, the convoy tackles Switzerland’s legendary passes – Gotthard, Grimsel, and Susten (of cinematic Goldfinger fame) – whilst ascending to Nufenen, Switzerland’s highest mountain pass with a paved road. Winding down the mountain, guests arrive at five-star fairytale castle, Park Hotel Vitznau, on the shores of Lake Lucerne, spending the evening enjoying open-flame “Caveman Style” gastronomy at The Grill Terrace.

 Day 5: Exploring Lake Lucerne
