Asia-Pacific remains a key driver of the global travel industry: HBX Group

The post Asia-Pacific remains a key driver of the global travel industry: HBX Group appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

HBX Group recently hosted  MarketHub Asia 2025 at Studio City, Macao, bringing together industry leaders to discuss the key trends shaping the future of travel in Asia-Pacific. During the event, HBX Group executives, alongside  industry experts, shared insights into the region’s rapid expansion, emerging travel patterns, and  evolving consumer behaviours.

APAC: The driving force behind global travel growth

Asia-Pacific remains a key driver of the global travel industry, with Japan, India, and China leading the surge in bookings. The region’s economic and demographic evolution is transforming the travel  landscape, with APAC’s population expected to reach 4.3 billion by 2030, representing 50% of the  world’s total. A defining shift is the rise of the middle class, which is projected to make up two

thirds of the global middle-income population by 2034, fuelling an unprecedented demand for travel.

“APAC is one of the most dynamic travel markets in the world, and the rapid pace of change we’re  seeing—both in terms of traveller expectations and business models—demands that we  continuously adapt,” said Pippa Williamson, Senior Vice President of Sales at HBX Group. “At HBX  Group, we are committed to helping our partners navigate this evolving landscape by leveraging  data, innovation, and our deep regional expertise.”

PATA: APAC as the global growth engine

Reinforcing APAC’s position as the world’s leading travel region, Noor Ahmad Hamid, CEO of the  Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), shared key insights during MarketHub Asia.

“The Asia-Pacific region is expected to reach 4.3 billion people by 2030, accounting for half of the  world’s population. More importantly, 81% of that population will be middle-class, meaning two thirds of the global middle-income segment will be in APAC,” said Hamid. “This is why APAC is not  just growing—it is the Global Growth Engine of the travel industry. Seven of the world’s top 20 fastest growing economies in 2024 are in this region, making it a crucial market for investment and  expansion.”

He also highlighted how intra-regional travel is playing a major role in APAC’s recovery and expansion,  with key markets such as Japan, South Korea, and Thailand leading the way. According to PATA’s  latest projections, international visitor arrivals (IVAs) in Asia-Pacific are set to reach between 813  million and 947 million by 2027, depending on market conditions, reflecting strong and sustained  growth in the region.

Emerging Destinations and the Rise of Experiential Travel

While Japan remains the most in-demand destination, other emerging markets such as Laos,  Cambodia, and Sri Lanka are experiencing significant growth. Government-backed tourism  campaigns and improved airline connectivity have positioned these destinations as attractive  alternatives, particularly for travellers seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences.

Experiential travel is increasingly shaping tourism flows, with live entertainment, major events,  and cultural experiences becoming key decision drivers. Music tourism has been a major catalyst,  with Taylor Swift’s Singapore tour alone attracting over 500,000 travellers and generating  substantial economic benefits. Similarly, South Korea continues to benefit from the global K-pop  phenomenon, with one in 13 visitors citing K-pop as a primary motivator for travel, underscoring  the industry’s growing influence on international tourism patterns.

The Role of India and China in APAC’s Tourism Future

India and China are poised to dominate travel spending in APAC over the next decade, accounting  for 40% of the region’s total tourism expenditure. As disposable incomes rise, there is a growing  demand for premium, personalized travel experiences, with more travellers seeking high-end  accommodations and curated leisure activities. The continued expansion of international flight  routes and investment in digital travel infrastructure will further accelerate outbound and intra regional travel in these markets.

MarketHub Asia continues to be a flagship event for the travel industry in APAC, providing a platform  for thought leadership, collaboration, and strategic discussions that supports industry partners with  data-driven insights and a deep understanding of regional market trends.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland releases first Sustainability Report

The post Tourism Tropical North Queensland releases first Sustainability Report appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) just published its first annual Sustainability Report which details the key initiatives guiding the industry towards reducing carbon emissions whilst contributing to the local environment and community.

TTNQ CEO Mark Olsen said the industry had taken many steps forward in recent years after establishing the brand promise in 2020 that visitors would: See Great, Leave Greater.

Olsen said: “Global expectations are rising for the tourism industry to move beyond providing experiences to ensuring that tourism is sustainable and contributing to the future of our natural environments and our communities.”

He added that the TTNQ Sustainability Report 2024 highlights that Tropical North Queensland has the greatest number of eco-accredited businesses in any region in Australia and one of the highest in the world.

Currently, the region has 84 operators and 191 experiences with Ecotourism or EarthCheck accreditation, accounting for  21 percent of the total membership at TTNQ.

On the way to Net Zero

According to Olsen: “The region is on-track to reach its Net Zero aspiration in 2050 by aiming to reduce the average carbon emissions per visitor from 55kg per day to 42kg in 2032 through the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel, emissions reductions by businesses through solar, reducing waste to landfill and transitioning to renewables.”

As of press time, at least 20 percent of TTNQ members are measuring and offsetting their impacts through local conservation programs such as Reforest’s Mabi forest rehabilitation for the endangered tree kangaroo on the Atherton Tablelands.

A part-time Sustainability Coordinator was also appointed in September 2023 to support members on their sustainability journey, and the board established a Sustainability Leaders Cluster Group which has increased from 71 to 113 members in the past year.

Involving the First Nations

Olsen said: “The TNQ First Nations Tourism Plan was launched in May 2023 recognising that all tourism is on Country, supporting Indigenous experiences to develop, and encouraging more visitors to connect with culture, and since then the number of Indigenous experiences in the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse has almost tripled from 12 to 32.”

Likewise, TTNQ uses media and marketing activities to help the public to understand challenges that are beyond control, such as bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef, and how they can be more involved in making a difference so they can See Great and Leave Greater.

Initiatives like the Guardian of the Reef program add value by rewarding consumers for learning about the Reef and its challenges.

This programme earned AU$7 million in accredited product sales last year with 55,000 people using the platform delivering 18,000 bookings, while more than 60 global media articles worth $20 million reached 200 million people around the world.

Olsen concluded by saying: “The sustainability journey is a long one, but it is a journey that TTNQ and our members are committed to as we continue to promote our unique destination to the world with the promise that every visitor will not only see great, but they will also leave greater knowing they have contributed to the protection and management of World Heritage areas.”

TFE Hotels reveals a new look for the Adina Town Hall in Sydney

The post TFE Hotels reveals a new look for the Adina Town Hall in Sydney appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

TFE Hotels officially reopened Adina Town Hall, introducing a refined, apartment-style accommodation experience in the heart of the CBD.

The property’s refurbishment is part of TFE Hotels’ ongoing revitalisation of first-generation properties under the Adina brand.

Designed by Bates Smart, the newly refurbished 144-room Adina Town Hall blends timeless elegance with contemporary comfort, offering business and leisure travellers a stylish and spacious retreat just moments from Sydney’s top attractions.

According to Brenton Smith, interior design director for Bates Smart: “We wanted the rooms at Adina Town Hall to feel like a home away from home. In the layouts, we opted for simple solutions that are attractive, like removing walls and joinery and adding portals to create height and visual focal points.”

Warmth and elegance all at once

Smith pointed out the use of soft high-quality materials, an element that evokes the warmth of an upmarket apartment.

He said: “Less is definitely more with these designs, and the result is a space that exudes elegance and makes guests feel at home.”

Adina Town Hall’s lobby design mirrors this approach, creating a welcoming arrival experience with a lounge-style setting.

Strong focal points, curved furniture, and bespoke joinery soften the geometry, making the space feel inviting, Smith explains.

Positive feedback

The comforting aspect of the overall design is a fact not lost on Adina’s first guest arrivals, as TFE Hotels’ regional general manager Emma Soutter noted how early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Soutter said: “The kitchen is the heart of the home, and Bates Smart has designed spaces where guests can entertain, relax, and feel at ease, whether in their apartment or in the hotel’s lobby lounge. It’s an approach that is really resonating with our guests.”

The reimagined Adina Town Hall joins a new wave of elevated Adina properties, including Adina Pentridge Melbourne and Adina Geneva, as well as recent refurbishments in Melbourne on Flinders and Chippendale in Sydney.

More first-generation Adinas, including Adina Darling Harbour, are set to be refurbished in the coming months.

No financial details of the deal were given. It follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the Sarawak-owned Hornbill Skyways company on October 27, 2023 to acquire a majority stake in MASwings from MAG.

Minor International lauds creation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone

The post Minor International lauds creation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

International hospitality and real estate firm Minor International welcomed the creation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

The hospitality firm also lauded related tax incentives to boost investment and economic activity on Malaysia’s Desaru Coast, where Minor manages a luxury residential development, Anantara Desaru Coast Residences.

As the zone’s flagship area, the Desaru Coast will focus on several sectors, including education, food security, health, and tourism.

With its strategic location and a range of world-class amenities, the residences are poised to benefit from the increased economic activity and investment that the JS-SEZ is expected to attract.

A rafter of new incentives

The new incentives, which came into effect on 1st January, include a five percent tax rate for 15 years for companies investing in high-value activities within the JS-SEZ, while eligible knowledge workers will also benefit from a 15 percent income tax rate for ten years.

The JS-SEZ’s focus on high-value industries such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, medical devices and aerospace manufacturing is also expected to create a highly skilled workforce and drive demand for premium residential properties.

The zone is expected to create 20,000 skilled jobs in the first five years, and the government seeks to facilitate the expansion of 50 projects within the same timeframe.

This surge in economic activity within the JS-SEZ is anticipated to positively impact to real estate investment in Desaru Coast through increased demand for housing, improved infrastructure, and tourism growth, potentially leading to capital appreciation for property owners.

Boosting appeal for potential buyers

Minor International’s chief operating officer Micah Tamthai opines that the new tax incentives will make Anantara Desaru Coast Residences an even more attractive investment proposition for buyers .

Tamthai said: “We anticipate an increased demand for Anantara Desaru Coast Residences from discerning buyers in the market for an investment property or a family home. Minor is confident that the new tax incentives will be a major catalyst for economic growth in the region.”
