Flyadeal joins IATA

The post Flyadeal joins IATA appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

flyadeal, Saudi Arabia’s youngest and region’s fastest growing low-cost carrier, has joined IATA, the airline industry’s leading trade association. Membership of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents an illustrious list of over 320 global passenger and cargo air service providers, followed a comprehensive process by flyadeal to secure IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the industry’s highest safety accreditation.

Steven Greenway, flyadeal Chief Executive Officer, said: “It’s an extreme honour for flyadeal to be welcomed into an industry institute that IATA is. The International Air Transport Association is steeped in history representing the interests of members with a single collective voice.

“As we’ve grown in stature, building our operations since our inception in 2017 to a considerable size that is continuing to develop at pace with operational safety our priority, it was inevitable IATA membership was a must-join body. We now sit alongside our full-service sister airline Saudia which has been an established IATA member for decades. As Saudia and IATA celebrate their 80th anniversaries this year, it is also a moment of pride for flyadeal to be part of the trade association in such a milestone year.”

Kamil Alawadhi, IATA Regional Vice President Africa and Middle East, said: “We are delighted to welcome flyadeal as the newest member of the IATA family. As a low-cost carrier, their inclusion highlights the importance of flyadeal’s contribution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s rapid aviation growth and reinforces IATA’s role in representing airlines of all business models.

“Saudi Arabia has made remarkable progress in developing a world-class aviation sector, and flydeal’s membership reflects the country’s commitment to expanding connectivity and fostering sustainable industry growth. We commend the government’s vision for the sector, and IATA remains dedicated to working with all stakeholders in Saudi Arabia to support its ambitious aviation strategy ensuring a thriving industry that benefits travellers, businesses, and the broader economy.”

Celebrating the official membership, flyadeal CEO Steven Greenway and his management team hosted an IATA delegation led by Kamil Alawadhi, Regional Vice President Africa and Middle East, for a cake-cutting ceremony and new partner workshop at the airline’s headquarters in Jeddah.

IATA works to support and advance the aviation industry by developing global standards, advocating for policies that promote safe, efficient, and sustainable air travel, and providing essential services such as training, financial systems, and operational guidance. Through collaboration with governments, industry stakeholders, and international organisations, IATA helps shape the future of aviation, ensuring that it remains a vital driver of global connectivity and economic growth.

As a member, flyadeal is able to participate in a variety of IATA working groups relating to safety, flight and ground operations, sustainability and digital transformation, all of which the entire industry is collectively embracing. With flyadeal stepping up engagement with the travel trade, IATA membership will also enable quicker and more efficient agency payment processing through the association’s Billing Settlement Plan (BSP).

In November 2024, flyadeal cleared IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), a stringent appraisal that covers an airline’s operational safety ensuring compliance to the toughest of rules and practices governing aviation protocols. These include aircraft engineering, maintenance, flight operations, inflight cabin services, ground handling, cargo and security.

New Zealand relaxes visa requirements for digital nomads

The post New Zealand relaxes visa requirements for digital nomads appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Immigration New Zealand announced that it has relaxed visa requirements specifically for digital nomads in a bid to boost inbound tourism.

The measure specifically targets individuals who travel whilst working remotely.

Thanks to these relaxed regulations, digital nomads can continue to work remotely for offshore employers even while they’re on holiday in New Zealand.

Digital nomads can stay in the country for up to 90 days, but will be required to pay a resident’s tax should they opt to extend their stay.

New Zealand is the latest among several nations, including Japan and South Korea, that introduced modified visa programmes for digital nomads since international routes reopened following the pandemic.

Such visas appeal to individuals who wish to travel whilst working remotely.

A necessary measure

New Zealand immigration minister Erica Stanford said: “We welcome visitors of all types to New Zealand and in this particular announcement, those who are able to work as digital nomads here on our shores.”

She added that the change will enable many visitors to extend their stays, which will lead to more money being spent in the country.

The measure is expected to augment the tourism sector’s contribution to the national economy and speed up its post-pandemic recovery.

Immigration officials likewise pointed out that relevant changes apply to all visitor visas, including tourists and those visiting family, partners and guardians on longer-term visas.

It should be noted, however, that only remote work based overseas is allowed under the modified regulations.

Travellers whose employment requires them to be resident in the country full-time are still required to obtain specific visas.

Asia Pacific’s Adventure Tourism potential revealed in 2024 ATDI

The post Asia Pacific’s Adventure Tourism potential revealed in 2024 ATDI appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

The recent release of the 2024 Adventure Tourism Development Index (ATDI) report provides a fresh post-pandemic look at the adventure tourism landscape, highlighting destinations that are leading the market and offering key insights for countries to unlock the economic and social benefits of adventure tourism by catering to the rising demand for authentic and transformative travel experiences.

In the larger Adventure Tourism Development Index (ATDI), APAC countries with advanced economies (New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Singapore, South Korea) dominate the top spots. However, the remaining 22 countries in the APAC region with emerging/developing economies are also important in the adventure tourism industry, so they created a deep dive focused on this large region, breaking it down into the smaller areas of East and Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the South Pacific Island nations.

East & Southeast Asia: A mix of established players and rising stars

East Asia boasts a diverse landscape of adventure tourism destinations, with Thailand leading the way. Its well-developed infrastructure, positive image, and excellent transportation networks make it a top choice for adventure travelers. However, to maintain its position and ensure long-term success, Thailand must prioritize sustainable development practices. Similarly, Malaysia, with its thriving entrepreneurial spirit and supportive business environment, needs to further embrace sustainability to secure its future in adventure tourism.

China, while already a strong contender with its rich cultural heritage and robust infrastructure, has the potential to attract more adventure travelers by enhancing its global image and improving health services. Meanwhile, Mongolia, with its pristine landscapes and unique nomadic culture, shows strong potential in natural and cultural resources. Both Vietnam and Indonesia also hold promise but need to focus on improving their adventure tourism offerings to become more competitive in the region.

South Asia: Safety and heritage drive appeal

Within South Asia, Bhutan emerges as a leader thanks to its strong emphasis on safety and environmental preservation. Its commitment to sustainable practices and unique cultural heritage make it a compelling destination for eco-conscious travelers.

However, other countries in the region face challenges in maximizing their adventure tourism potential. For example, India, while possessing a well-developed tourism sector, needs to address concerns related to safety, health, and sustainability.

Central Asia: Untapped potential beckons

Central Asia presents a mixed scenario for adventure tourism development. While Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan stand out with strong enabling environments and a commitment to climate resilience, they need to improve infrastructure and enhance their international image to attract more adventure travelers. Uzbekistan, despite its positive enabling environment, also lags in safeguarding natural areas and promoting local cultures.

South Pacific Islands: Natural wonders and sustainable practices

Fiji leads the South Pacific Island nations in adventure tourism, boasting a well-established tourism industry with a strong emphasis on sustainability and safety. By further improving natural resource management, Fiji can solidify its position as a top destination for eco-conscious adventurers. Palau, renowned for its pristine marine environment, also shows great promise, but needs to focus on developing its tourism infrastructure and promoting its unique offerings to a wider audience.

Samoa, with its strong entrepreneurial spirit, has the potential to become a major player in adventure tourism. However, addressing infrastructure limitations and enhancing its global image will be crucial to attracting more visitors. Similarly, Vanuatu and Tonga, while offering safe and climate-resilient environments, need to improve resource management, infrastructure, and international promotion to compete effectively in the regional market

Moving Forward

The Asia Pacific region benefits from several key strengths, including a growing demand for sustainable and experiential tourism, a wealth of untapped natural resources and cultural heritage, and the emergence of new adventure activities. However, it also faces challenges in infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and safety and security.

The 2024 ATDI serves as a valuable guide for emerging and developing economies in the Asia Pacific to navigate the dynamic adventure tourism market. By embracing sustainable practices, investing in infrastructure, and leveraging their unique natural and cultural assets, these nations can create unforgettable experiences for adventure travelers while ensuring the long-term health of their environments and communities.
