Macau gears up for its return to ITB Berlin

The post Macau gears up for its return to ITB Berlin appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Macau is slated to make a stunning comeback at this year’s ITB Berlin from 4th to 6th March.

According to Macao Government Tourist Office (MGTO) chief Helena de Senna Fernandes, this is more than a showcase of the city’s attractions, but a crucial part of their efforts to diversify its tourist markets.

Fernandes acknowledged the challenges of attracting European visitors, particularly due to the smaller size and traditional vocation of its tourist partners in Macau.

Being present at ITB Berlin is, thus, seen as a necessary part of the strategy of increasing internationalisation across tourist segments.

Prior to its appearance at ITB Berlin, MGTO will make its way to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 25 February and in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 27 February, for a series of business-to-business meetings aimed to increase arrivals from the Middle East.

Bali targets 6.5 million tourists for 2025

The post Bali targets 6.5 million tourists for 2025 appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Bali’s provincial tourism authorities announced their target of 6.5 million foreign tourists for 2025.

2024 was a record-breaking year for Bali, as the province welcomed more than 6.3 million international travellers, making up half of Indonesia’s national total of 12 million.

The report was made to the media by Tjok Bagus Pemayun, head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, though this did not include figures for the last two days of 2024.

This is well beyond the conservative forecast of around 5.5 to 6 million international arrivals for the past year.

According to Pemayun: “The most important thing is not only that, what we expect is foreign tourists with longer stays, more spending money, and respect for local culture and society.”

Things to consider in 2025

For this year, the key focus for the Bali tourism sector is to promote both culturally respectful and sustainable tourism and encourage tourists to stay longer and spend more.

This is already happening, slowly and steadily the average length of stay in Bali by foreign tourists is increasing.

Since November 2024, the average length of stay for foreign guests at a starred hotel was 3.01 nights, up from 2.99 nights in October 2024.

The room occupancy rate among starred hotels was 59.69 percent in November 2024, slightly down compared to October, at 64.37 percent, but still higher than November 2023.

According to the Bali Central Statistics Agency’s acting head Kadek Agus Wirawan: “Australia remains Bali’s main tourism market, while the Chinese market has recovered significantly after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In November 2024 alone, foreign tourist visits to Bali reached 72,900 people, with Australian tourists contributing to 24 percent of all international arrivals, specifically 118,182 visits.

India followed with 9.76 percent with 46,150 visits, and China at 5.75 percent, or 27,183 visits.

Wirawan explained that Bali must continue to diversify the kinds of traveler demographics this year, along with tourist nationalities where the destination is promoted.

He remarked: “In addition to maintaining the Australian market and optimizing China’s potential, the government and tourism players need to strengthen promotions in other countries such as South Korea and India.”

Domestic travel will also play a huge role for Bali in 2025, though Java remains the most in-demand island for local tourists.

American research firm Report Ocean recently released its annual report on the Vietnamese adventure tourism market.

Comprehensively reviewing 2024, the report offers insights regarding the current market landscape in the country, as well as customer intelligence and competitive strategies in the market.

The report also explains factors driving and restraining the market.

Key trends observed in 2024

Based on findings, experts observed the following trends in the Vietnamese adventure travel scene over the past year:

  • Increased demand for experiential travel, manifested in the way travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that go beyond traditional sightseeing. Adventure tourism caters to the demand for immersive and experiential travel, allowing participants to engage in exciting and challenging activities.
  • Greater focus on sustainable and responsible tourism. This comes in the face of the growing need for sustainable and responsible tourism practices. Adventure tourism operators may adopt eco-friendly initiatives, support local communities, and minimize the environmental impact of their activities.
  • More diverse adventure activities. Adventure tourism is diversifying beyond traditional activities like hiking and trekking. Activities such as zip-lining, rock climbing, paragliding, and water sports are gaining popularity. Tour operators may offer a range of adventure options to cater to different preferences.
  • Experiences where adventure and wellness tourism come together. The combination of wellness and adventure is a trend, where travelers seek activities that promote both physical activity and relaxation. Destinations may offer adventure experiences alongside wellness retreats or spa offerings.
  • The greater use of innovative technologies in adventure tourism. Technology plays a role in enhancing the adventure travel experience. This includes the use of mobile apps for trip planning, virtual reality for pre-trip experiences, and wearable devices for tracking activities and health metrics.
  • Operators are beginning to offer personalised packages to travellers. Adventure tour operators may offer personalised and specifically tailored experiences to meet the preferences and skill levels of individual travelers. Customisation allows for a more unique and satisfying adventure travel experience.
  • More travellers are going at it solo. Solo adventure travel is gaining popularity, with an increasing number of individuals seeking solo adventures. Adventure tourism providers may cater to solo travelers by offering group activities and guided experiences.
  • Food and culture also have a role to play in the sector. Adventure tourism is expanding to include culinary and cultural experiences. Travelers may engage in activities such as cooking classes, cultural immersions, and visits to local communities, combining adventure with an exploration of local traditions.

Other observations

Safety remains a top priority in adventure tourism, as tour operators are investing in robust risk management strategies, safety training, and equipment to ensure the well-being of participants during adventurous activities.

At the same time, digital marketing and social media play a crucial role in promoting adventure tourism.

Influencers and user-generated content contribute to the visibility of destinations and activities, influencing traveler choices.

Accessibility to far-flung locations is also seen as a potential growth sector for Vietnamese adventure tourism.

Improved transportation infrastructure and accessibility to remote destinations are enabling adventure tourism in previously less-explored areas.

Travelers may seek off-the-beaten-path experiences and unique landscapes.

Significant recommendations

The experts behind the report offer the following insights for what could be improved in the sector:

  • Better education and skill development programmes. Adventure tourism can also serve as an educational platform. Skill development programs, guided by experienced instructors, allow participants to learn new activities such as mountaineering, kayaking, or survival skills.
  • Increased government support. Government support and regulation are important factors in the growth of adventure tourism. Regulations may focus on safety standards, environmental protection, and sustainable tourism practices.
  • A greater emphasis on health and wellness. Health and wellness-focused adventure activities, such as yoga retreats, meditation hikes, and fitness challenges in scenic locations, are gaining popularity as travelers prioritize well-being.
  • Niche tourism needs to be considered. Niche adventure tourism experiences, such as wildlife safaris, bird watching expeditions, or photography tours, cater to specific interests and attract enthusiasts seeking specialized adventures.

Phuket-based developer Botanica Luxury Villas announced its plans for significant portfolio expansion following record-breaking sales of THB1.2 billion in a single month in 2024.

This comes as Phuket’s villa market reaches a historic THB160 to 170 billion, with villa launches surpassing condominium launches for the first time in 15 years.

Demand continues to surge, particularly from Russian and European buyers seeking second homes and investment properties.

Botanica Luxury Villas has already extended its reach beyond Phuket, with successful developments in Krabi and Hua Hin.

Both locations attract growing interest from European, Australian, and Chinese buyers seeking high-end vacation homes.

These areas offer rental yields of six to eight percent annually, reflecting Thailand’s growing position in the luxury real estate sector.

Surprising resilience and rapid growth

According to Botanica Luxury Phuket Co Ltd chief executive Attasit Intarachooti: “The luxury villa market in Thailand, particularly in resort destinations, continues to show remarkable resilience and growth. Data from Colliers Thailand shows significant price appreciation in prime areas, with top villas in Kamala and Bang Tao reaching THB296.2 million and THB270 million, respectively.”

At present, Botanica Luxury Villas’ portfolio includes 27 projects across three major tourist destinations.

Its 2025 pipeline features several mixed-use developments designed to elevate the region’s luxury offerings.

A key highlight for this year is Botanica Grand Avenue, a THB12-billion mega-project near Phuket’s Bang Tao Beach, which includes HYTHE by Botanica, the company’s first luxury condominium project, already securing 40% percent of pre-launch sales.

Additionally, a THB18-billion high-end condominium project is under development in Cherng Talay, just 500 meters from Bang Tao Beach.

This landmark project will feature an art-inspired walking street and upscale retail spaces, positioning the area as a luxury lifestyle hub.

These expansions align with Thailand’s broader strategy to establish its resort destinations as global luxury hotspots.

Recent data reveals the Phuket villa segment launched 1,285 new units across 65 projects in the first half of 2024 alone, valued at THB36 billion.

To support this growth, Botanica Luxury Villas also unveiled its new 1,885-square-meter headquarters, which will serve as a one-stop service center for international clients and investors.
