CityHub, the urban lifestyle hotel brand, is bringing its signature blend of cutting-edge technology and sustainable design to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik this November.

Officially opening in the heart of the Hverfisgata district on 16th November, and with bookings already available through its website, CityHub Reykjavik promises a unique, digitally-driven stay perfect for tech-savvy travellers looking to explore Iceland like a local.

Known for reinventing the traditional hotel experience, CityHub offers modern, pod-style ‘Hubs’, prefabricated units designed in collaboration with Studio Uberdutch, for ultimate comfort and privacy. With 89 Hubs and 4 accessible rooms equipped with smart technology, guests can fully personalise their stay. Key features of the Reykjavik location include:

●      Rooftop hot tub: Inspired by Iceland’s hot springs, guests can relax in CityHub’s rooftop hot tub after a day of exploring the city with stunning views and, if you’re lucky, a glimpse of the iconic Northern Lights

●      Seamless digital experience: Guests can check-in 24/7 via CityHub’s kiosks and use RFID wristbands for smooth access to their Hubs, as well as its self-service bar with a range of wine, spirits, soft drinks and local craft beers on tap.

●      Icelandic-inspired design: The hotel’s design is influenced by Iceland’s vibrant nature and culture, developed in partnership with local developers and interior designers HAF Studio.

●      24/7 access to CityHosts: Guests have access to friendly CityHosts who are selected for their deep local knowledge and who can provide insider hacks and tips to help guests explore Reykjavik like a local.

CityHub aims to challenge the perception that Iceland is a budget-breaking destination. With rates starting from €80 a night, it offers an affordable yet premium stay in the heart of Reykjavik, making it an ideal option for budget-conscious explorers.

The hotel combines affordability with high-end amenities, including spa-like bathrooms and a cosy Hangout with plenty of space to work from or organise a day of sightseeing, delivering a unique way to experience the city without compromising comfort.

And like CityHub’s other locations (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Copenhagen), the Reykjavik property repurposes an existing building, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

“We’re passionate about creating spaces that not only offer incredible guest experiences but also contribute positively to the environment,” said Sem Schuurkes, Co-founder of CityHub.

“With CityHub Reykjavik, we’re offering a fresh take on affordable, modern travel in one of the world’s most stunning destinations. Iceland is often seen as a luxury escape, but we’re breaking that mould – bringing a tech-enabled, sustainable, affordable option for travellers who want an authentic city experience. From our rooftop hot tub to our expert local CityHosts, we’ve created a space where guests can truly connect with the city while enjoying all the modern comforts they would normally expect.”

Hafsteinn Júlíusson, the Industrial & Interior designer at HAF Studio comments: “We are proud to collaborate with CityHub on the design concept and styling of CityHub Reykjavik. Alongside our talented team of designers, we set out to capture the vibrant landscape of Iceland with bold colours inspired by the city’s colourful nature. Having now seen our vision come to life, we are excited to provide visitors with a modern, authentic and eco-friendly accommodation that best showcases the rich offerings of this dynamic city”.

San Diego welcomed 32 million visitors in 2024

The post San Diego welcomed 32 million visitors in 2024 appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) celebrated a triumphant 2024 fiscal year at its 70th Annual Meeting, held Nov. 13 at the newly renovated Jacobs Music Center. The event drew more than 540 local tourism and hospitality leaders, community stakeholders, and elected officials, as SDTA revealed new data about the economic and visitor attraction successes, positive impacts, as well as new international rankings of the region’s local tourism industry.

In fiscal year 2024, San Diego welcomed an estimated 32 million visitors (2 million increase from FY23) who contributed a record $14.6 billion in direct spending locally (2% increase from FY23). With visitors steadily coming to the San Diego region, local hotels also achieved higher occupancy rates countywide. The average hotel occupancy in FY24 was 73%, ranking fourth in the nation. The average length of stay was nearly four nights, about one night more, on average, than before the pandemic. These hotel stays helped generate $310 million in citywide transient occupancy tax (TOT) revenue, which is used to fund essential services and improve quality of life.

Through September, San Diego hotels have recorded 76% occupancy in 2024, ahead of Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco.

“We’re pleased to report strong results for fiscal year 2024, building on last year’s success with more visitors, a higher visitor spend, and best-in-the west hotel occupancy,” said Julie Coker, president and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority. “This stand-out performance speaks to San Diego’s appeal as a business and leisure destination, as well as our dedicated tourism community that ensures our visitors have a memorable experience and want to return again and again.”

SDTA also announced the formation of the San Diego Tourism Foundation, a charitable community organization created to expand opportunity for residents and visitors and better equip San Diego’s travel and tourism industry for the future. The Foundation will focus on three key areas: small business empowerment, workforce development, and destination stewardship.

“The San Diego Tourism Foundation aims to elevate San Diego as an inclusive destination that is equitable and sustainable for all,” said SDTA Director of DEI and Community Engagement Theresa Cunningham, who oversees the foundation. “While the foundation and SDTA operate under a related governing body and share a common purpose, the foundation uniquely opens the door to new resources that will sustain our efforts to diversify and strengthen San Diego and support programs like our award-winning Tourism Accelerator. Through this work, SDTA is not only enhancing the local economy but also creating pathways for meaningful community impact.”

San Diego’s bustling tourism in fiscal year 2024 fueled unprecedented regional economic growth, supported quality jobs, and contributed to essential services and well-being of local communities. The total economic impact generated by tourism reached $22 billion and the industry supported more 1 in 8 jobs in San Diego.

San Diego’s reputation as a premier destination for travelers, conventions, and events also garnered national recognition this year. Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards ranked San Diego as the No. 2 Best Big City in the U.S. for the second consecutive year – surpassing popular cities like Honolulu, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

San Diego’s success is rooted in its unmatched tourism offerings and hospitality, making it a top U.S. destination. From its natural beauty and outdoor adventures, world-class attractions and captivating art and cultural experiences, to an award-winning diverse culinary scene permeated by the region’s friendly spirit, San Diego leaves a lasting positive impression on travelers and residents alike.

Akasa Air hosted an Aviation Experience Day for 50 students from the Logic Centre and Community Welfare Association (LCCWA) for an exclusive look into the aviation world on the occasion of Children’s Day. Held at the AIESL NEC Hanger Mumbai in partnership with Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) and AI Engineering Services Limited (AIESL), the event aimed to spark curiosity and interest in aviation among students in the 9th and 10th grades.

Logic Centre and Community Welfare Association (LCCWA), is a Mumbai-based NGO, founded in 2012 by respected community members and retired IIT Bombay professors, dedicated to supporting the development of children from underprivileged homes in the locality. LCCWA provides daily classroom coaching, weekly computer training, nutritious meals, health check-ups, and hygiene education to children who attend municipal and low-resourced schools. This holistic approach aims to improve academic performance, reduce dropout rates, and foster positive social values.

An exclusive tour of an Akasa Air aircraft offered students a closer look into the airline industry. They enjoyed a guided tour of the aircraft, providing them with insights into its design, technology, and operations.

Akasa Air Executive Committee members, pilots, cabin crew, and engineering teams hosted an interactive session with the students to discuss various professions essential to airline operations, from engineering and technical maintenance to cabin crew responsibilities. This gave them a broad perspective on the diverse careers available in the field as they prepare to make decisions about their educational and career paths.

On the occasion, Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Office, Akasa Air, said: “Aviation is an industry that touches nearly every aspect of global connectivity and technological innovation. For us at Akasa, the experience of hosting this enthusiastic group of children was an opportunity to inspire young minds and reinforce our commitment to community support. The event brought our values to life, enabling us to give back in meaningful ways to deserving communities. We hope that one day, these young minds become proud Akasians themselves and look back to remember that their first-ever aircraft experience was with Akasa—making it a true moment of pride for all of us. As we continue to expand our outreach efforts, partnerships like this one with LCCWA remind us of the lasting impact that even a single day of inspiration can have.  Akasa Air is honoured to play a part in broadening perspectives, nurturing dreams, and empowering young people to reach for the skies.”

This initiative reaffirms Akasa Air’s commitment to empowering future generations by providing them with opportunities to learn and aspire.

Thailand’s Bo Suak Village earns spot in UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages 2024 list

The post Thailand’s Bo Suak Village earns spot in UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages 2024 list appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Bo Suak, Thailand, joins an exclusive league of 55 rural communities around the world pioneering sustainable tourism development.

In a milestone for Thailand’s rural tourism, Bo Suak village has become the country’s first-ever destination to be recognized as one of the Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism. With this year’s announcement, Bo Suak is one of only 55 villages globally to receive this prestigious recognition for sustainable tourism development.

Bo Suak’s journey is particularly remarkable as it joined the Best Tourism Villages Upgrade Programme in 2021 and worked diligently over the last three years to advance its sustainable tourism practices, ultimately earning its place among the world’s top rural destinations.

“Tourism is a vital tool for inclusion, empowering rural communities to protect and value their rich cultural heritage while driving sustainable development,” said UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. “The Best Tourism Villages initiative not only recognises the remarkable achievements of these villages but also highlights the transformative power of tourism. By leveraging their unique assets, these communities can foster economic growth, promote local traditions, and enhance the quality of life for their residents. We celebrate the villages that have embraced tourism as a pathway to empowerment and community well-being, demonstrating that sustainable practices can lead to a brighter future for all.”

Thailand’s historic entrance into the Best Tourism Villages league

As Thailand’s first-ever village to receive this accolade, Bo Suak’s recognition underscores the country’s dedication to developing and promoting rural tourism. Despite Thailand’s longstanding commitment to rural tourism, this is the first time a Thai village has made it to the UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages list, shining a global spotlight on Thailand’s rural communities.

The achievement also highlights the impact of the Upgrade Programme—an initiative supporting villages that demonstrate potential for recognition but need support in areas like social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Thanks to its continuous dedication, Bo Suak transformed over three years, improving across key areas to achieve the standards required to join the Best Tourism Villages list.

The Best Tourism Villages initiative was launched in 2021 to showcase rural tourism’s role in safeguarding landscapes, cultural heritage, and local values. This year’s edition recognised 55 villages, selected from over 260 applications submitted by more than 60 UN Tourism Member States.
