AAT Kings launches ex-UK flight bookability

The post AAT Kings launches ex-UK flight bookability appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

The development means agents can now book the full package under AAT Kings ATOL license, which has been extended in anticipation of strong demand from the UK and Irish trade. Ben Hall, AAT Kings Group CEO said: “This development has been a long time in the making, and we are excited to announce this to our trade partners today. AAT Kings has over 100 years of experience creating holidays in Australia and New Zealand; now we can also offer the trade flight inclusive packages. We hope that this strong legacy of trust and expertise will be an asset for our agent partners.

“We are anticipating strong demand for this new bookability and are confident that this move will open doors for more agent partners to start selling our Australia and New Zealand guided holiday packages.

“This is especially true for agents who may have given up their ATOL license during Covid. Not being able to book a flight inclusive package in one place has been a barrier to sale, and we encourage any agent who isn’t already signed up with us to reach out to our UK sales team.”

This update will enable agents to create a tailored package, with a full range of regional departure points, stop-overs and flexible tickets combinable with an AAT Kings Guided Holiday of five nights or more.

Ex-UK flight inclusive packages can be booked through the contact centre, on the phone or via email.  Bookings can be reserved on a deposit basis*, with full payment made at 60 days out.

Hall continued: “We know that a holiday to Australia or New Zealand is a once in a lifetime trip for many UK customers and being able to create that dream holiday itinerary while knowing all elements of the package are protected and in one place, is crucial. The flexibility we can now offer our trade partners makes it a stress-free experience. The agent can own all elements of the booking, and the customer can tick off all their bucket list items, combine an extended stay to visit family or friends, and build their ideal flights around it, knowing that they’re getting the best price possible.”

AAT Kings recently announced that small group tours would be offered for the first time for 2026/27. Groups will have an average of 16 and maximum 24 guests, offering a more intimate tour experience.

“The introduction of new small group tours was monumental for AAT Kings,” said Hall. “Being able to offer a different touring style means we can continue to diversify and make sure we’re offering something for everyone. Add that to the new option of also booking flights with us, and we are confident we will see a continued strong uptick in bookings from the UK market.”

Three webinars are available in September, for agents who want to learn more about the new touring style and product for 2026/27, as well as the key benefits to booking with AAT Kings. Slots are on September 9th, 10th, and 11th at 10am and pre-registration is required via an online form or email sales@aatkings.co.uk.

In addition, AAT Kings A-Listers trade loyalty programme has been revamped, with two new podcast episodes available focusing on the new season programme and small group tours.  Available on-demand via AAT Kings Industry Hub, the platform provides exclusive insider access, handy tips and tricks, and sales tools designed to complement agents’ existing industry knowledge.

Sardis and Lydian Tumuli of Bintepe become Türkiye’s 22nd site on UNESCO World Heritage List

The post Sardis and Lydian Tumuli of Bintepe become Türkiye’s 22nd site on UNESCO World Heritage List appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Türkiye continues to lead national initiatives and foster international partnerships for the protection and sustainability of its cultural heritage. During the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Paris, France, from 6 to 16 July 2025, Sardis and Lydian Tumuli of Bintepe, listed on UNESCO’s Tentative List since 2013, were officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.  The number of sites from Türkiye on the UNESCO World Heritage List has reached 22 , with the inscription of this site in the western province of Manisa.

Sardis, once the capital of the Lydians, a powerful Iron Age civilisation renowned for its wealth and early coinage production, stands as a testament to Anatolia’s rich past. Nearby Bin Tepe, its royal necropolis, features some of the largest tumulus tombs in the world. The site was recognised under UNESCO’s Criterion (iii) for its outstanding archaeological and architectural evidence reflecting the unique native culture of the Lydian civilisation in Anatolia. With this latest addition, Türkiye further strengthens its position on the UNESCO World Heritage List and continues to elevate its rich historical values to global recognition under the umbrella of universal heritage.

Heritage of the Lydian Capital

Sardis, whose history dates back to the 5th century BCE, made its mark on history as the capital of the Lydian Kingdom during the 6th century BCE. The Lydians were Anatolian people who developed a distinct language and religious system and introduced the first gold and silver coins, initiating a major shift in the evolution of monetary systems. The Sart Çayı, once known as the river Pactolus, enriched Sardis and its surroundings with gold deposits that became the source of the immense wealth of King Croesus (Kroisos/Karun). Legend has it that Phrygian King Midas washed away his golden touch in the waters of the Pactolus.

According to UNESCO, “Sardis had a unique urban structure with fortified walls, terraces, and distinct zones, including settlements, sanctuaries, and cemeteries.” While the ancient city stands out with its architectural texture and cultural legacy, the Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe, is considered one of the largest ancient necropolises in the world, containing more than 119 burial mounds spread over approximately 7,500 hectares.

After the fall of the Lydian Kingdom in the 6th century BCE, Sardis remained significant under Persian, Greek, Roman, and Eastern Roman rule. Today, the site features remarkably well-preserved Roman structures, including the bath-gymnasium complex, the acropolis, and the Temple of Artemis. The ancient city of Sardis also stands out for its religious significance. It houses the largest known synagogue of the ancient world and one of the Seven Churches of Revelation in Western Anatolia. These churches, among the most important religious routes in Türkiye for Christians, are sacred not only for their role in the spread of early Christianity but also because, according to the Book of Revelation, they received letters from Saint John calling them to spiritual renewal. In the letter to the Church of Sardis, the community was criticised for having the appearance of being “alive” while spiritually dead.

Archaeological excavations and interdisciplinary conservation efforts are ongoing at the ancient city of Sardis and the Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe, under the direction of the Sardis Excavation Directorate. These works are part of Türkiye’s broader archaeological vision, which prioritises the preservation and sustainable management of its rich cultural heritage.  With the Night Museum Project, continuing this summer, 27 sites across Türkiye, including Sardis, will stay open late into the night, welcoming visitors to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage under the stars.

‘Sky Roads’ trace Xizang’s journey from isolation to modernity

The post ‘Sky Roads’ trace Xizang’s journey from isolation to modernity appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

With an average elevation of over 4,000 meters, this region was once described as “the limit of human survival.” Yet on the “roof of the world,” China carved three “Sky Roads” that reshaped the destiny of this land. In ancient times, Xizang had only mule and yak trails, with no highways at all. From 1950 to 1954, the Sichuan-Xizang Highway and the Qinghai-Xizang Highway were built, ending Xizang’s millennia-long isolation.

Stretching over 4,300 kilometers in total, the two “Sky Roads” were hailed as “golden bridges that bring happiness.” With the construction of the Qinghai-Xizang, Sichuan-Xizang, and Ngari power transmission lines, Xizang made a historic shift in electricity supply—from rationing to surplus. It not only transmits electricity outward, but also provides clean energy through the West-to-East Power Transmission program.

Today, trunk railways crisscross Xizang, with bullet trains in operation. Highways link the region to the rest of the nation and extend all the way to its villages. All towns across Xizang now enjoy full 5G coverage. With its civil aviation system seamlessly integrated, an “Air Silk Road” has also taken shape. From highways to power lines, from networks to new pathways, a modernization roadmap for “the roof of the world” is unfolding.

Vietnam sees visa facilitation as key factor towards boosting tourism cooperation

The post Vietnam sees visa facilitation as key factor towards boosting tourism cooperation appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Vietnam has pointed out that visa facilitation is a crucial factor in expanding tourism cooperation with two major markets: South Korea and Taiwan.

The Vietnam News Agency reports that this key point was made during a seminar held in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday, 23rd August.

The event was jointly organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, Travel Association, and Golf Tourism Association as a venue for strengthening two-way tourism exchanges whilst supporting Vietnamese businesses in dealing with these important markets.

Notable source markets

HCMC Tourism Association vice-chair Nguyen Viet Anh noted that both South Korea and Taiwan have long been among Vietnam’s leading sources of international visitors.

Arrivals from the two markets have grown steadily, even as more Vietnamese make their way to these destinations.

Nguyen explained the seminar provides a timely channel for tourism enterprises to directly engage with officials from the RoK Consulate General and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City to receive updated information on visa regulations and procedures.

According to You Sang Byun of the visa section of South Korea’s Consulate-General in HCMC, visa policy plays a decisive role in attracting visitors.

He stressed that the RoK has consistently sought to make it easier for Vietnamese travelers to obtain visas, helping businesses streamline processes and reduce errors.

Similarly, Derek Chou, chief representative of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in Vietnam, underscored how Taiwan is committed to enhancing cooperation with Vietnam.

He said updated visa policies would support joint efforts to promote tourism and encourage the development of new tourism products tailored to diverse customer needs.

A boon for golfers in Asia

Doan Ngoc Thao, deputy director-general of The Swing Sports Tourism Joint Stock Company, pointed out that golf tourism is thriving, particularly among high-spending visitors from South Korea and Taiwan.

Annual growth in this segment has averaged between ten and 15 percent, with strong rebounds following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Doan emphasised that Vietnam’s recent visa reforms including broader exemptions, extended stays, and convenient e-visas have been a decisive factor in drawing more golfers, encouraging longer visits and repeat trips.

She added that golf tourism is not only a sport experience but also contributes to enhancing the image of the destination, promoting related services such as hotels, restaurants, and transportation.

If Vietnam can maintain or expand favourable visa policies, the country will soon become the leading destination in Asia for golf tourists from South Korea, Taiwan, and beyond.
