Booking.com’s Roque discusses emergent trends in Philippine hospitality

The post Booking.com’s Roque discusses emergent trends in Philippine hospitality appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Booking.com’s Philippine marketing team leader Raissa Roque shared key insights regarding the country’s hospitality sector at yesterday’s IDeaS HOTECH Forum in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Roque was quick to point out that, in the post-pandemic era, it is highly unlikely that things will ever return to what they were before 2020.

She said: “Whatever happened before COVID, it is not going to happen again anymore. The trends have changed since then, and dealing with challenges in travel and hospitality has become an ongoing learning experience.”

Indeed, based on a survey conducted among Booking.com users in the Philippines and elsewhere, travellers have become more experimental in the sense that they want to try new experiences and different ways to do things, and this extends to the way they make travel decisions.

Roque noted that there has been an increase in decisions driven by the use of AI in search engines and the influence of social media, essentially making an experience out of the planning process itself.

The rise of silver travellers and an increase in family trips

Roque pointed out further that there has been an increase in family bookings or travel groups numbering between four and five individuals per trip.

She said: “Older people, the baby boomers, are now travelling. They’ve been spending more now in terms of travel as a leisure activity, especially in the Philippines.”

With the increase in family and group travel bookings comes an increase in searches for apartments on Booking.com and other online travel platforms, seeing how groups prefer an environment to serve as a home away from home during their trips.

Up to 45 percent of multi-generational groups have searched for apartments, as these give ample room and privacy compared to standard hotel accommodations.

Domestic tourists are propelling travel and hospitality forward

Based on reports not only from Booking.com but also from organisations like Mordor Intelligence and Leechiu Property Consultants, domestic travellers are helping propel the Philippine hospitality sector forward despite a lower turnout of foreign arrivals.

Indeed, data shows that domestic travellers accounted for 78.45 percent of hotel and accommodations bookings in 2024, driven mostly by long weekends that precipitated a rise in staycations, along with a significant increase in domestic travel demand, as well as a surge in MICE and business travel.

Keeping these in mind, Roque listed the top ten Philippine cities where travellers opt to go and book stays as follows:

  1. Manila
  2. Cebu
  3. El Nido, Palawan
  4. Boracay
  5. Siargao
  6. Panglao
  7. Coron, Palawan
  8. Mactan, Cebu
  9. Siquijor
  10. Moalboal

Manila’s popularity surged thanks to the increased demand for staycations throughout the past 18 months which was fuelled, as stated earlier, by a spate of long weekend holidays.

Those booking in Manila specifies that their stays need to be child- and pet-friendly, given that many weekenders opt to stay with their kids and pets.

Likewise, Manila stays also need to feature access to fitness or wellness facilities; attractions, including retailers and restaurants, within walking distance; as well as the availability of transportation, particularly for those who need to fly in or out of the city.

Meanwhile, the bulk of provincial destinations saw a demand for accommodations that also offered spa services, room service (especially for remote areas like Mactan and El Nido), leisure activities, and sustainability practices.

Those booking outside of Manila also sought out reviews prior to booking, and checked for policies regarding cancellation and rebooking in the event of untoward incidents or changes.

Of the ten destinations above, Coron stands out because its primary market is not domestic but mostly made up of French tourists who come to the Palawan town to experience its aquatic attractions and rustic charm.

Emirates officially launches its new daily service from Dubai to Hangzhou, China

The post Emirates officially launches its new daily service from Dubai to Hangzhou, China appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Emirates VIP delegation was led by Sheikh Majid Al Mualla – DSVP International Affairs; Adam Li, China VP; Sami Aqil Abdullah – SVP EKAS Outstation & Business Support and Abdulla Al Olama, Senior Manager, Commercial Operations – Far East.

Emirates has officially launched its new daily service to Hangzhou, marking its fifth gateway in the Chinese mainland and the second new destination added in under a month, following Shenzhen. Flight EK310 landed at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport on 30 July to a warm welcome from local dignitaries, airport officials, and a ceremonial water cannon salute. Passengers on the inaugural flight from Dubai were treated to commemorative keepsakes including keychains, certificates, and Chinese tea tasting sets to mark the occasion.

The inaugural flight carried passengers from across Emirates’ global network, including key markets like the UAE, Nigeria, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Brazil, as well as a VIP delegation led by Emirates’ senior management, and members of the international media.

Majid Al Mualla – DSVP International Affairs

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, commented on the launch: China has become one of the world’s leading aviation markets, and Emirates is proud to have played a role in its development. Adding two new gateways within just one month is a major milestone that underscores our deepening commitment to the Chinese mainland. This expansion also demonstrates the strong momentum our East and Southeast Asia growth strategy has gained over the past year. With rising demand, we’re optimistic our global network will continue connecting people, businesses, and economies across Asia and beyond. Emirates remains committed to delivering seamless, reliable connectivity between this dynamic region and the world.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, and all our local partners for their invaluable support in enabling the successful start of this route.

Operated by an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER, flight EK310 departs Dubai at 0940hrs and arrives in Hangzhou at 2200hrs. The return flight, EK311, departs Hangzhou at 0010hrs, landing in Dubai at 04:55hrs.*

Emirates’ conveniently timed service offers optimal connectivity for customers from 40 destinations in Europe, 21 in Africa, 13 in the Middle East as well as Brazil and Argentina, to Hangzhou via Dubai. The airline also offers convenient two-way connections from Hangzhou to key cities including Istanbul, Barcelona, Cairo and Johannesburg via Dubai.

Better cargo solutions

The Boeing 777-300ER wide-body aircraft offers up to 16 tonnes of bellyhold cargo capacity per flight, enabling the efficient transport of time-sensitive shipments such as e-commerce goods, pharmaceuticals, smart devices, and other high-value products.

As one of the world’s largest hubs for cross-border e-commerce, Hangzhou boasts a complete digital trade ecosystem and advanced logistics infrastructure, serving as a key international gateway for many Chinese brands.

With Emirates SkyCargo’s expansive network spanning six continents and high-speed connectivity through its Dubai hub, goods from Hangzhou and the broader Yangtze River Delta can reach emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and Latin America faster, reducing delivery timelines and enhancing supply chain performance.

Flight EK310 landed at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport on 30 July to a ceremonial water cannon salute.

Emirates operates 49 weekly flights to five major Chinese cities

Emirates now operates 49 weekly flights to five major Chinese cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. The airline has also introduced its signature complimentary chauffeur-drive service for First and Business Class passengers in Hangzhou, extending its luxury offering to over 70 global cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, London, Paris, Dubai, and Milan. Eligible passengers can now enjoy exclusive, complimentary transfers within an 80-kilometre radius of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, served by Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles. **

With the addition of Hangzhou to its growing Chinese mainland network, Emirates is building a powerful air corridor for trade, tourism, and digital exchanges between China and the Middle East, as well as beyond. The new route will further open new opportunities for Chinese brands to reach global audience while offering customers from across Emirates’ global network better access to this powerful tech hub.

On the Dubai–Hangzhou route, Emirates operates a Boeing 777-300ER, featuring 8 First Class suites, 42 Business Class seats, and 304 Economy Class seats. Passengers can enjoy Emirates’ award-winning ice entertainment system, offering over 6,500 channels in more than 40 languages, including Chinese. The onboard experience is rounded off with regionally inspired menus incorporating a variety of popular Chinese dishes and desserts.

Through interline and codeshare agreements with China Southern Airlines, Air China and Sichuan Airlines, Emirates provides enhanced connectivity to destinations beyond its own network across China.

Beyond air services, Emirates is also committed to supporting the development of China’s tourism sector and has established meaningful partnerships across various fronts. Last year, the airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE China Cultural Centre to jointly promote China as a key destination across the airline’s global network.

Travelers from the UAE and other GCC countries can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days, making both business and leisure travel to the Chinese mainland even more convenient.

KAAV Safari Lodge, Kabini, Karnataka joins the RARE India Wildlife Collection

The post KAAV Safari Lodge, Kabini, Karnataka joins the RARE India Wildlife Collection appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

RARE India has announced the inclusion of KAAV Safari Lodge, a boutique wildlife lodge right at the edge of Nagarhole National Park in Karnataka, into its collection of boutique, owner-run lodges and experiences in the Indian subcontinent. Situated within the Greater Nilgiri Biosphere, KAAV offers Untamed Luxury – a thoughtful blend of refined comfort, ecological sensitivity, and personal hospitality.

“South has always been aspirational for me and the Nilgiri Biosphere is a stunning memory from previous trips,” said Shoba Rudra, Partner & Founder, RARE India. “To experience KAAV and include it as part of our community is truly special and a continuation towards wildlife lodges in Southern India. I couldn’t believe my eyes at the number of birds I saw just standing next to a mango tree ripe with fruit. Untamed Luxury is the vibe here and we invite wildlife lovers to experience Nagarhole and its wilderness from KAAV’s own forest.”

Founded by Sanjay, a planter and wildlife enthusiast, and Tony, an architect known for his contextual approach to design, KAAV Safari Lodge was envisioned as a forest retreat rooted in openness and a profound respect for the ecosystem. The result is a sanctuary where the rawness of the forest meets contemporary minimalism, where guests are invited to slow down and connect deeply with the land.

Managed by Rajesh and his team of naturalists, KAAV curates a diverse range of wilderness experiences-from guided birding trails, nature walks and insect spotting to twice-daily safaris in the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve, where sightings of elephants, leopards, wild dogs, bison and an extraordinary variety of birds are possible. The Kabini River adds another dimension, with motorboat and coracle safaris drifting quietly between Nagarhole and Bandipur, occasionally offering glimpses of marsh crocodiles and even tigers. Guests can also explore the landscape by kayak, passing through riparian backwaters. Bicycles are available for those who prefer to explore the countryside on wheels, passing local farms and glimpses of village life along the way. For those staying longer, the Brahmagiri Hills trek is a rewarding experience, best attempted outside of the monsoon season.

KAAV derives its name from the Malayalam word ‘sacred forest’ and the lodge honours this ethos by keeping its footprint minimal. Spread over four acres, the land is alive with birds, amphibians, reptiles and small mammals – many of which reveal themselves on KAAV’s unique ‘Tiny Safari’. Even the entrance—a circle of woven dried lantana—offers a poetic introduction to what lies within. The Lodge features just a handful of rooms and luxury tents, planned to ensure privacy while maintaining a light, eco-sensitive footprint. Architecture is restrained and elegant, with muted palettes, wide glass panels and an indoor–outdoor rhythm that keeps guests attuned to the changes in light, weather and wildlife activity.

Dining at KAAV is as personal as its hosting, with meals served in carefully chosen nooks—by the pool under a canopy of trees, along the shaded verandas or by the riverbank under a starlit sky. Every meal is unhurried, seasonal, and crafted to complement the quiet rhythms of the forest.

KAAV is easily accessible, with the closest airport at Mysore, just 1.5 hours away, connected to major cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Kochi, Goa and Chennai. Mysore is also connected by Vande Bharat trains from Bengaluru and Chennai. The lodge is open year-round, and a minimum stay of three nights is recommended by RARE India, with a fourth night ideal for those wishing to add the Brahmagiri trek to their itinerary.

With its thoughtful design, intimate scale and deep reverence for the wild, KAAV Safari Lodge strengthens RARE India’s growing portfolio of boutique, sustainable properties across the subcontinent. The Lodge offers travellers a rare chance to experience the timeless rhythms of this incredibly biodiverse region in the western ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

July 2025 becomes Etihad’s busiest month for aircraft deliveries

The post July 2025 becomes Etihad’s busiest month for aircraft deliveries appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

B787 Taking Off

Etihad Airways achieved a significant milestone in its fleet expansion programme with July 2025 becoming the busiest month for aircraft deliveries in the airline’s 22-year history. Throughout July, Etihad took delivery of five aircraft including its inaugural A321LR, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Airbus A350-1000, and one Airbus A320ceo.

This record-breaking month demonstrates the airline’s commitment to rapid growth as it works towards its target to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030. The five aircraft will significantly enhance Etihad’s capacity across its expanding global network.

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: “July has been a remarkable month for Etihad Airways. Taking delivery of five aircraft is our most intensive delivery programme to date and showcases our ambitious growth trajectory. These aircraft will enable us to serve more destinations, offer increased frequencies, and deliver the exceptional experiences our guests expect across our network.”

The delivery programme reflects Etihad’s strategic approach to fleet modernisation, with each aircraft type serving specific network requirements. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will support long-haul operations to destinations across Asia, Australia, and North America, while the Airbus A350-1000 will enhance capacity on high-demand routes.

A particular highlight of July’s deliveries was Etihad’s first Airbus A321LR, which represents a significant milestone as the airline’s inaugural aircraft of this type. T Etihad defines luxury again with a revolutionary cabin configuration to Etihad’s narrowbody operations, featuring dedicated First Suites alongside lie-flat Business seats, a first for narrowbody aircraft in the region, and enhanced Economy seating with seatback entertainment – bringing premium in-flight experiences to medium and short-haul routes. The deliveries bring Etihad’s total fleet to 106 aircraft. The airline operates one of the world’s youngest fleets, with an average aircraft age of  8.7 years, supporting operational efficiency and enhanced passenger experience.

The aircraft deliveries support Etihad’s recently announced network expansion, which includes 27 new destinations and increased frequencies across existing routes. The airline has experienced remarkable growth, carrying more than 20 million passengers in the last 12 months for the first time in its history, doubling passenger numbers from 2022 levels.

Etihad’s fleet expansion programme continues beyond July, with 20 additional aircraft per annum expected for delivery throughout 2025 and 2026.

By expanding its fleet and network, Etihad Airways is strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global aviation hub and offering unparalleled travel experiences to millions of passengers worldwide.

Hotel performance remained stable across India in June 2025 despite disruptions: HVS ANAROCK

The post Hotel performance remained stable across India in June 2025 despite disruptions: HVS ANAROCK appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

India Hotel Sector Performance June 2025 witnessed a stable performance for the Indian hotel sector, as early monsoon getaways and travel along new infrastructure corridors helped offset the impact of external disruptions, including the Air India Flight AI171 crash, the Bengaluru crowd tragedy, and ongoing geopolitical tensions.

As per HVS ANAROCK Hotels & Hospitality Monitor, ARRs and Occupancy trends remain as below:

ARR Trends Across Key Indian Markets (Year-on-Year Growth: June 2025)

Average rates in June 2025 saw robust year-on-year growth, with double-digit gains in several cities.

Mumbai and New Delhi maintained their premium positioning, with average rates exceeding INR 10,000 and INR 8,500, respectively. Meanwhile, Hyderabad saw the highest year-on- year growth.

Goa was the only market to experience a year-on-year dip in average rates in June 2025, likely due to the post-summer travel slowdown, early monsoon onset, and subdued leisure demand.

Occupancy Trends Across Key Indian Markets

Occupancy trends in June 2025 displayed mixed performance across Indian markets, with overall marginal year-on-year improvement at the national level. However, regional disparities remained evident, driven by geopolitical uncertainty, early monsoon impact, and shifting travel patterns.

Chennai led the country in occupancy in June 2025, closely followed by Mumbai, with both cities clocking rates in the 73- 76% range. Jaipur and Ahmedabad, meanwhile, posted the strongest year-on-year gains.

Mövenpick Grand Hotel Wroclaw is a City Icon Reimagined for Modern Meetings

The post Mövenpick Grand Hotel Wroclaw is a City Icon Reimagined for Modern Meetings appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

The recent opening of the Mövenpick Grand Hotel Wroclaw marks a new era for one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Originally opened in 1903 as the Hotel du Nord, this landmark property has undergone a meticulous seven-year restoration, now re-emerging as a luxury destination that blends rich heritage with modern hospitality, ideal for discerning business and event travellers.

Centrally located opposite Wroclaw Główny railway station, the hotel’s elegant art-deco façade and restored tower now mirror the Hotel Piast across the street, recreating the symbolic “city gates.” This first impression sets the tone for a guest experience built around design, gastronomy, culture, and connectivity.

Inside, the hotel’s calming interiors feature custom chandeliers and stained glass inspired by the train station’s historic architecture. Public areas flow seamlessly between a verdant café, cocktail bar, and ‘The Gate’ restaurant, led by Executive Chef Michał Bekisz. Mövenpick’s hallmark “Chocolate Hour” adds a signature experiential touch for every guest.

MICE-Ready, Design-Led & Connectivity Hub

For meeting planners, the hotel’s MICE facilities are versatile with sophisticated. The primary meeting room, easily accessible from the reception lobby, spreads out over 270 m² with multiple configurations, there is also a boardroom of 21 m², both equipped with state-of-the-art technology and set against a backdrop of carefully restored heritage details.

The hotel’s 179 rooms indulge a colour palette of “coffee, chocolate and champagne” each benefitting from high ceilings, a spacious setting and geometric-forms always linking to the external art-deco façade plus views over the bustling rail station or cityscape. Beyond meetings, the hotel offers a fitness centre and spa zone, with easy access to the city’s cultural treasures.

Designed by MIXD Studio, the hotel curation has been a project which respects both the hotel’s legacy and the expectations of modern guests. “It’s about harmony—between form and function, and between past and future” says Creative Director Piotr Kalinowski. The interiors engage the senses while providing comfort and flexibility for business and leisure guests alike.

Wroclaw’s Attractions Span the Ages

Wroclaw’s medieval Market Square is a short walk away, with its eclectic mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. Local attractions from the Wroclaw University to the famed bronze dwarves create numerous group excursion and incentive options with historic and artistic flair. At the heart of the main squares is ‘Piwnica Świdnicka, Europe’s oldest restaurant (established in 1293), where you can dine amid vaulted cellars below the Old Town Hall, sampling traditional Silesian fare and even join the brewmaster for a tasting of house-brewed beer from their very own brewery.

The UNESCO World Heritage listed ‘Centennial Hall’, a concrete dome that continues to give back to the city ever since completion in 1911, hosts a diverse programme of annual world-class events. This is an enduring legacy of Max Berg, whose architectural genius created one of Wroclaw’s most impressive structures.

A plethora of bridges cross the Odra River, with its offshoots and canals, giving the city another moniker as the “Venice of the North” and opens-up the main waterway to floating venues such as ‘Odra Centrum’, which is moored to the bank of the River. The facility is focused on the river’s ecology, protection and education, whilst also being a cultural venue with café cum restaurant and even kayak’s for hire with the promise of a second hour free if you help clean up the waterway.

A Collaborative Legacy and City Gateway

The hotel’s rebirth is a story of collaboration between investors, designers, and brand specialists, unified by values of authenticity and preservation. “This was more than a business decision—it was a tribute to Wroclaw’s history,” notes Grzegorz Rojek, CEO of Grand Hotel Wroclaw.

As Poland holds the EU Council Presidency, the Mövenpick Grand stands as a model of European collaboration and sustainable hospitality. For planners seeking a distinctive destination for meetings or incentive travel, the hotel and city, join forces to deliver both practical infrastructure and unforgettable cultural immersion. Not a surprise based on how Wroclaw has been shaped by centuries of shifting borders, cultural influences and conflict. Strategically located at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, namely Amber and Salt, Wroclaw has belonged to ten different states throughout its rich and layered past.

Aneta Książek, Head of Poland Convention Bureau at the Polish Tourism Organisation, remarked: “Alongside Warsaw and Kraków, Wrocław is one of Poland’s top three meeting destinations according to ICCA. In 2024, the city welcomed a record 6.6 million tourists. Today’s event planners look for venues that meet ESG standards and offer more than just conference rooms, what matters now is the atmosphere, authenticity, and social responsibility of a place. Wrocław’s strategy for 2030 focuses on quality of life, sustainable development and innovation – all of which align perfectly with Mövenpick’s philosophy.”

Francesco Sciortino, Chief Operating Officer of Austrian Airlines since 1 April 2021, will take up a new challenge on the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines as Hub Manager Frankfurt and Accountable Manager with effect from 1 September 2025. Over the past four and a half years, Francesco Sciortino has made a significant contribution to the positive development of Austrian Airlines as COO and has raised operations to a new level with his team. The airline has been one of the seven most punctual airlines in Europe for three years in a row and is currently in third place. It has also won other major awards, including the Skytrax Best Airline Staff Europe Award, which was presented in 2023 and most recently in 2025, as well as recognition as one of the 20 best cabin crews in the world.

“I look back on my time at Austrian Airlines with great gratitude. I began my flying career there in 1997 as a co-pilot on the A320 and have been able to set an important course for the future as Chief Operating Officer over the last 4½ years. With the successful introduction of the brand new Airbus A320neo and the introduction of the Boeing 787-9, the modernization of the fleet was driven forward decisively. The recent decision to phase out the Embraer 195 now paves the way for a streamlined and efficient fleet structure. I am convinced that Austrian Airlines is ideally positioned for the future and I am now looking forward to my new role at Lufthansa Airlines”, says Francesco Sciortino.

Before joining Austrian Airlines, Sciortino was Managing Director and Accountable Manager at Germanwings and was previously Accountable Manager and Project Manager at SunExpress Germany, where he was responsible for the development of long-haul operations. Furthermore, he flies as captain on the Airbus A330/340 at Lufthansa. The promotion to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines marks an exciting career step for the 52-year-old and also means a return to his German home, Frankfurt.

“We would like to thank Francesco Sciortino for his dedicated and inspiring leadership. His achievements have not only shaped Austrian Airlines, but have repeatedly set benchmarks throughout the Lufthansa Group. I am convinced that with his passion for operations and his high level of ambition he will positively shape the core brand of the Lufthansa Group. The entire Austrian Airlines team congratulates Francesco on his new challenge and wishes him every success for the tasks ahead,” says Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann.

Till Streichert, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Austrian Airlines and Chief Financial Officer of Lufthansa AG, emphasizes: “As a thoroughbred airliner and proven operations professional, Francesco Sciortino has made a decisive contribution to bringing the operational performance of Austrian Airlines to the highest level in recent years. I would like to thank him for this and look forward to continuing to work with him as a new member of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines.”
