Hawaiian Airlines, part of Alaska Airlines, has announced a substantial investment plan of over $600 million to be executed over the next five years. This initiative, named the Kahu’ewai Hawai’i Investment Plan, aims to modernise airport infrastructure, upgrade technology, and improve the overall guest experience across the islands. The plan also emphasises community engagement and sustainability efforts.

The investment will see major renovations at airports in Honolulu, Līhue, Kahului, Kona, and Hilo, including improved lobbies, gates, and amenities. A new premium lounge is set to open in Honolulu, enhancing pre-flight comfort. Additionally, Hawaiian Airlines will update its app and website to offer better travel planning and self-service features, alongside new technology investments for employees.

The airline’s fleet of Airbus A330s will undergo interior upgrades starting in 2028, introducing new seats, lighting, and inflight entertainment systems. Hawaiian Airlines will also enhance its loyalty programme, offering exclusive benefits to Hawaii residents.

CEO Diana Birkett Rakow stated, “Our Kahu’ewai Hawai’i Investment Plan represents one of Hawaiian Airlines’ largest single investments in our infrastructure, products, and services in Hawaii.”

The plan includes community impact initiatives, such as partnerships in education, workforce development, and regenerative tourism. Hawaiian Airlines is also investing in sustainable aviation fuel and hybrid-electric propulsion technologies to reduce emissions.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green praised the investment, highlighting its potential to strengthen the economy and maintain Hawaii’s competitiveness as a global destination. The Kahu’ewai Hawai’i Investment Plan is part of Alaska Air Group’s broader strategy to enhance travel experiences whilst prioritising safety and performance.
