Cebu Pacific seeks to continue growth trajectory following strong performance in 2024

The post Cebu Pacific seeks to continue growth trajectory following strong performance in 2024 appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Philippine low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific looks to continue its rapid growth, leveraging on 2024 fleet and network development.

During its annual stockholders’ meeting, airline chairman Lance Gokongwei highlighted the importance of the company’s continued commitment to excellence, expansion of its network and strategic investment in aircraft.

Gokongwei declared: “Our work over the past couple of years have placed Cebu Pacific in a position to take advantage of the Philippine growth story, and we are confident that our airline will continue to reach new highs on the back of the outstanding work of the organization, other stakeholders, and, of course, your unwavering support.”

A year of exceptional growth

The company finished 2024 with significant growth in revenues through record breaking passenger numbers and a consistently strong seat load factor throughout the year.

To support its growth and ensure operational resilience amid industry challenges, Cebu Pacific took delivery of 17 aircraft in 2024 and pushed forward with the development of hubs across the country, to ensure that more people have access to affordable air travel.

Cebu Pacific CEO Michael Szucs noted how these strategic investments in hubs and aircraft have been key catalysts to the airline’s growth.

According to Szucs: “By seizing these opportunities, we have not only outpaced competition but also solidified our position as industry leader.”

In 2024, Cebu Pacific’s growth strategy enabled it to become the leader in the Philippine international market, while strengthening its leadership in the domestic market.

Szucs expressed confidence in the airline’s continued growth in 2025, noting how early months of 2025 show that the market is already absorbing the additional capacity, and how this will also strengthen the company’s overall financial position.

He also expressed his optimism in the long-term growth potential of Philippine aviation, driven by the country’s economic, geographic and demographic advantages.

Underpinning this view is Cebu Pacific’s historic order for up to 152 aircraft signed in 2024, showing its commitment to supporting the Philippines’ continued growth and development, and securing its leadership position well into the next decade.

Cathay Pacific graduates a new batch of cadet-pilots

The post Cathay Pacific graduates a new batch of cadet-pilots appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Cathay Pacific celebrated the graduation of the latest batch of cadet pilots who completed its Cadet Pilot Training Programme.

This batch is unique in the sense that they are the first class whose ground theory training was conducted in-house by Cathay Academy.

In turn, this reflects Cathay’s expertise in creating and delivering tailored and comprehensive training.

Cathay chief operations and service delivery officer Alex McGowan welcomed Civil Aviation Department acting director-general of civil aviation Clara Wong as the guest of honour at the graduation ceremony, which was held on Friday, 16th May, at the airline’s Cathay City headquarters.

Wong was moved to remark: “For over 35 years, Cathay Pacific’s cadet pilot training programme has served as a cornerstone for nurturing local aviation talent. From engaging more flying schools around the world, to having theory courses taught by local institutions, and now Cathay Academy, together we are making history. This evolution aims to make pilot training more effective, efficient and sustainable.”

McGowan added: “Developing aviation talent has always been a priority for Cathay. Our Cadet Pilot Training Programme provides us with world-class aviators, many of whom have gone on to hold senior training positions with us, as well as key flying leadership roles. Today’s graduation carries special significance as it marks our first group of cadet pilots to go through our very own Cathay Academy ground school, including Multi Crew Cooperation training in our simulators. This enables us to ensure the highest quality training, get closer to our future pilots, and enrich their overall experience. It also expands our ability to develop future generations of aviation talent locally.”

Extensive training at the hands of experts

In addition to the theoretical ground training, these cadet pilots also underwent flight training at AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Arizona and Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) training in flight simulators with Cathay Academy before graduating from the programme.

The 34 graduates making up the class have since joined Cathay Pacific as Second Officers and commenced flying duty.

Currently, there are more than 500 cadet pilots in training as part of the Cadet Pilot Training Programme.

Today, Cathay Pacific currently operates multi-path integrated courses for training its cadet pilots, including courses developed with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its in-house Cathay Academy.

Each course sees cadets first undertake theoretical ground training, then flight training at AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Arizona or Flight Training Adelaide in Adelaide, followed by multi-crew simulator training also developed by Cathay Academy at the airline’s Cathay City headquarters in Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific’s Cadet Pilot Training Programme was launched in 1988, and its present roster of alumni includes 185 Captains, more than 40 of whom are Training Captains.

The airline also has seven management pilots who earned their wings through the programme.

Since 2022, the Cadet Pilot Training Programme has provided training for more than 1,000 cadet pilots.

As Cathay continues to play its part in elevating Hong Kong’s status as a leading international aviation hub, it targets to recruit more than 130 cadet pilots in 2025 as an airline Group.

Traveloka reports increased travel demand throughout Asia Pacific

The post Traveloka reports increased travel demand throughout Asia Pacific appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Asian online travel platform Traveloka reports that travel demand is on the rise across Asia-Pacific based on figures from its recent EPIC Sale.

Per recent platform data, more travelers are eager to explore new destinations and seek meaningful experiences.

Traveloka noted that Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam emerged as the top three most-searched destinations by millions of APAC travelers during its recent EPIC Sale 2025 which ran between 22nd April and 5th May, offering discounts of up to 60 percent on flights, accommodations, and experiences.

Launched simultaneously across seven key APAC markets; namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, and Australia, the EPIC Sale not only delivered unbeatable deals but also provided insights into shifting travel preferences.

Beyond the numbers, the campaign reflects a larger trend: travelers are looking to make the most of long weekends and holidays, with a growing interest in cultural exploration, nature escapes, and family-friendly experiences.

To make the most of upcoming holidays, Traveloka encourages travelers to stay smart and save more by keeping an eye out for ongoing promotions, which offer significant discounts on flights, hotels, and attractions.

Whether exploring nearby cities, discovering hidden gems within the country, or traveling to international destinations, these deals provide the opportunity to create unforgettable experiences every step of the way.

Where APAC travellers want to go

Thailand ranked first among the top 10 most popular destinations for travelers from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

On the domestic front, Udon Thani, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat emerged as the top favorites among Thai travelers, reaffirming their appeal as top local destinations.

This reflects a clear enthusiasm for both global adventures and local escapes.

According to Nok Air chief commercial officer Ranon Viputsiri: “It has been a great pleasure for Nok Air to collaborate with Traveloka on this campaign. The results have been remarkable, reflecting the strong synergy between both parties. We look forward to continuing this close partnership and achieving even greater milestones together.”

Leisure travel and staycations continue to rise, indicating a growing preference for nearby travel with a more flexible itinerary.

Based on accommodation searches, Pattaya, Hua Hin, and Sukhumvit were favored by Thai travelers for short getaways, typically three day / two night stays to relax, enjoy local cuisine, and explore family-friendly experiences.

This aligns with a larger shift toward more conscious travel, where convenience and affordability play a greater role.

Making every experience count

Meanwhile, Traveloka vice-president for commercial travel activities Baidi Li said: “Today’s travellers are increasingly focused on value, measured not just in price, but in relevance, flexibility, and the quality of experience. Through initiatives like EPIC Sale, we help partners respond to these evolving expectations by connecting them with the right customers through timely and personalized offerings. This campaign not only drove strong engagement across key markets, but also strengthened our role as a trusted partner in helping brands grow their visibility and reach through data-driven, customer-centric solutions.”

During the EPIC Sale, there was a clear shift in traveler behavior: users were no longer just booking trips, they were curating experiences.

In Thailand, this was reflected in the surge of interest for activities such as Aquaria Phuket, Safari World Bangkok, Pattaya Dolphinarium, Dream World Bangkok, and Baiyoke Sky Restaurant. In addition, cruise travel gained notable traction, with more users exploring unique seafaring getaways that combine leisure, exploration, and cultural enrichment.

For his part, Royal Caribbean International’s vice-president and managing director in APAC Chad Grospe opined: “Today’s travelers are placing greater value on meaningful vacation experiences and seeking out journeys that create lasting memories. That’s why they turn to trusted platforms like Traveloka – partners who offer quality, curated travel experiences with seamless convenience. Our collaboration with Traveloka has allowed us to reach more travelers across the region, inspiring them to explore Royal Caribbean’s unique vacations both close to home and around the world. We’re proud to be part of their travel stories, helping to make every trip more exciting, meaningful, and unforgettable.”

Being Thailand 2025 casts spotlight on Thailand as a prime wellness destination

The post Being Thailand 2025 casts spotlight on Thailand as a prime wellness destination appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Being Thailand 2025 in Phuket served as a platform to consider the country’s role in shaping wellness-oriented tourism, hospitality, healthcare, and consumer markets on both regional and global levels.

This wellness-centric industry conference was held today, 19th May, at SAii Laguna Phuket.

Indeed, as the global wellness landscape continues to shift alongside changing consumer demands and travel behaviour, Thailand is increasingly recognized as a model of adaptive leadership in the wellness economy.

According to C9 Hotelworks deputy managing director Viona Zhang: “Thailand’s wellness economy is not just expanding, it is recalibrating to meet the future. Being Thailand 2025 offered a format that brought stakeholders together in person to evaluate where the market is going and how to align business models with the next wave of demand.”

Dynamic engagement

Over the past three decades, Thailand has developed a diverse and resilient wellness ecosystem.

From its roots in spa and holistic therapies, the market has matured into a dynamic blend of longevity-focused resorts, integrative medicine, and health-conscious lifestyle products.

Key destinations like Phuket have evolved into full-spectrum wellness hubs, supported by medical infrastructure, global hotel brands, and next-generation real estate.

Keeping these in mind, Being Thailand was structured as a distinctive B2B format that connected, inspired, and informed participants through a combination of expert panels, strategic discussions, and immersive wellness sessions.

This in-person approach facilitated high-value engagement across industries while reflecting the experiential nature of wellness itself.

A dynamic physical component which incorporated the elements of  movement, mindfulness, and recovery was designed to mirror the values and principles at the heart of the wellness economy.

A thriving sector

Insights from the Wellness Economy Report 2025, released by C9 Hotelworks, highlighted the scale and momentum of the sector.

Total wellness trip spending in Thailand rose from US$5.39 billion in 2022 to US$11.64 billion in 2023, driven by a sharp rise in international visitors whose numbers grew from 23 percent to 40 percent of the wellness travel market.

Thailand’s overall wellness economy was valued at US$38.89 billion in 2023, placing it among the top ten in Asia-Pacific.

Even today, wellness trends continue to influence consumer behaviour beyond travel, as fitness apparel and footwear now hold a 52 percent market share within the physical health segment.

Meanwhile, healthy-labelled foods and beverages reached a market value of US$5.50 billion.

This shift reflects how wellness has moved from a travel category into a daily lifestyle priority.

Likewise, related hospitality development is also evolving. Increasingly, wellness offerings—once isolated to specialist resorts—are now being embedded across hotel categories.

Vietjet poised to transfer 50 Boeing aircraft to Vietjet Thailand

The post Vietjet poised to transfer 50 Boeing aircraft to Vietjet Thailand appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Vietjet and Boeing formally announced an agreement to transfer up to 50 Boeing 737 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand.

The transfer of the said aircraft is part of a strategic initiative to strengthen aviation and tourism connectivity between Thailand, Vietnam, as well as other countries in the region.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra during the latter’s first official visit to Vietnam in over a decade.

Boeing Southeast Asia president Penny Burtt said of the agreement: “We are pleased to partner with Vietjet and Vietjet Thailand to expand Boeing 737 operations in Vietnam and Thailand. Together, we aim to connect communities and drive economic development, paving the way for a prosperous future in Vietnam and the dynamic growth region that is Southeast Asia.”

For her part, Vietjet chairperson Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao remarked: “The transfer of 50 modern and efficient Boeing 737-8 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand demonstrates our long-term commitment to sustainable aviation development in the region. We are determined to implement the ‘Three Connects’ Strategy between the two countries, encompassing supply chains, businesses, and localities.”

A significant allocation

Under the agreement, Vietjet will allocate 50 aircraft from its existing order of 200 Boeing 737s to Vietjet Thailand.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October 2025, significantly expanding Vietjet Thailand’s domestic and international network, particularly enhancing air links between Vietnam and Thailand.

As part of the agreement, Boeing will also provide Vietjet Thailand with comprehensive technical support, including pilot and engineer training, maintenance programs, and product services to ensure safe and efficient fleet operations in Thailand.

This new agreement marks a new milestone in the robust and effective cooperation between Vietnamese, Thai, and US enterprises, with shared priorities in digital transformation, sustainable development, and narrowing development gaps among member states.

The pros and cons of a regional unified visa

The post The pros and cons of a regional unified visa appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

The concept of a unified visa is not a new one, seeing how the European Union (EU) has been offering them for a while, much to the benefit of EU member nations, for three decades.

However, with the Philippines becoming the latest nation to show support for the unified ASEAN Visa proposed by the Thai government in 2024, perhaps it is time to take a closer look at what such a visa would mean for the regions that offer them in terms of both tourism and economics.

In this article, we define what exactly is a unified visa, what are the parameters governing its issuance and use, and how it may (or may not) benefit its issuing region.

What exactly is a unified visa?

Simply put, a unified visa is a form of travel documentation that gives a traveller access to more than one country within a specific region.

Rather than apply for a separate visa for a specific nation, this simplifies the process by allowing access to both the destination of choice as well as its regional neighbours if they, too, are covered under the visa.

The oldest unified visa currently in use is the EU’s Schengen Visa which was initially issued in 1995, following the ratification of the Schengen Agreement ten years earlier.

Per the Agreement, the Schengen Visa enables foreigners to travel to or through any country privy to the Agreement using a single visa as opposed to applying for individual visas with member states.

The same principle is set to govern the use of the GCC Grand Tours Visa and the proposed ASEAN Unified Visa.

The benefits of a unified visa for a region

To see what the benefits of a unified visa may deliver to its issuing region, let’s take a look at the one that is slated to be offered under the GCC’s Grand Tours programme.

While the GCC Grand Tours Visa has yet to be implemented, those behind it are already touting its merits in the form of the following regional benefits:

Greater economic impact through tourism

The introduction of the visa is likely to boost tourism and lead to increased spending in local economies, job creation, and increased development in the hospitality and service sectors, all of which will have significant positive impacts on the local economies.

Fostering cultural exchange through multi-border access

The multi-country travel and the likely increase in tourism encourages interactions between visitors and local communities which encourages greater understanding and appreciation of the region’s rich heritage and diverse cultures.

Also, regardless of which region issues a unified visa, there are significant benefits to the travellers who avail of them.

These include:

Seamless travel across numerous nations

Tourists can enjoy the freedom to travel seamlessly across several countries with a single visa. This eliminates the need for multiple applications and allows travelers to visit more of a given region with fewer administrative difficulties.

A far simpler application process

Rather than compiling several batches of the same documents for several visas, travellers need only compile one and fill out a single form. Thanks to modern technology, there may not even be a need to fill out a physical form as the process can smoothly be done online.

A more cost-effective way to travel

Plus, given that one only needs to fill out a single application rather than several, the process is also less costly and more manageable, allowing travellers to have more funds to spend on their trips.

So, what are the disadvantages of a unified visa?

Where there are benefits, there are also disadvantages, and even a document as vital as a unified visa has its flaws.

Among the potential disadvantages of a unified visa are the following

Unresolved security issues and differing security policies

One of the key matters that regional associations need to address is that of security, especially within ASEAN given the political volatility of several member nations and the high possibility of conflict among GCC nations and their neighbours. At the same time, a policy that may work in one country may not necessarily work with its neighbour, thereby leading to further discussions regarding border control and safety.

Issues related to data sharing and immigration control

Implementing a unified visa requires seamless data sharing between member countries, which can be challenging due to varying data privacy laws and security protocols. Likewise, uneven immigration control systems across member countries can create loopholes and undermine the effectiveness of a unified visa. Involved nations also need to discuss parameters with which to prevent the use of such visas for illegal activity, particularly human trafficking.

Cost will always be an issue

Implementing a unified visa requires substantial investment in infrastructure, data sharing mechanisms, and security protocols. This, in turn, poses a serious challenge with regions wherein two or more nations are undergoing economic instability and may be unable to hold up their end of the funding.

Processes and procedures

At the same time, let’s not forget that the implementation of a unified visa (an initiative on such a massive scale) requires governments to do all the paperwork from legal issues to the implementation of governing rules and regulations. It is a process that cannot be completed overnight and requires time, effort, and resources. Also, nations need to wrangle among themselves to find common ground with regard to visa validity, the types of visas to be offered, and a single list of requirements to be submitted by applicants.

These disadvantages notwithstanding, the benefits of a unified visa may far outweigh them in the long run, leading to greater economic success within a region and the wider exchange of cultural knowledge among nations.
