Greater Bay Airlines cancels 128 flights for Feb and March

The post Greater Bay Airlines cancels 128 flights for Feb and March appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

In a press statement Greater Bay Airlines(GBA) states that due to the delay in new aircraft delivery and the need for regular inspection for some of our existing aircraft, their overall flight schedule has been impacted, resulting in cancellations of 128 flights (or 64 roundtrip flights) in February and March 2025 involving approximately 5,500 passengers.

The flight service during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday is not affected.

GBA claims that they have proactively contacted passengers to assist them with flight protection, ticket rebooking/refunding (all associated fees will be waived) or compensation for the loss incurred by the flight cancellations on an individual basis to minimise the possible impact on their travel plans. They have also taken immediate action to tighten up the relevant approval procedure for flight scheduling. Additional manpower has been deployed at their Customer Service Centre to help speed up the ticketing arrangements for the passengers.

On the other hand, the business performance of our Seoul route is not satisfactory and they have submitted an application to respective authorities in Hong Kong and South Korea for suspending the service after prudent consideration.

Taiwan set to discuss familiarisation trips with Mainland China

The post Taiwan set to discuss familiarisation trips with Mainland China appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) is urging officials in Mainland China to properly discuss familiarisation trips they are planning to make to the country.

This is in preparation for the resumption of tour group visits by Shanghai and Fujian province residents.

In a statement issued on Friday, 24th January, MAC officials said: “To ensure that future tourism exchanges are conducted in a healthy and orderly manner, matters related to familiarization trips to Taiwan should be discussed through ‘the two cross-strait tourism associations’ before proceeding.”

A necessary response

MAC’s statement was a response to one made earlier on the same day by Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO), the Council’s counterpart in China.

In his statement, Chen confirmed that those organising familiarisation trips already submitted applications to Taiwanese authorities to visit Taiwan.

He said: “We hope that the visits by tourism professionals from the two regions to Taiwan proceed smoothly, laying a solid foundation for the resumption of group travel for residents of both regions.”

Discussions are underway

MAC officials added that the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association (TSTA) will be in touch with its mainland counterpart, the Association For Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits (ATETS), to propose discussions on matters of mutual concern.

The TSTA and ATETS were established by Taipei and Beijing, respectively, to facilitate coordination and negotiations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait on tourism.

At present, China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) currently only allows Fujian residents to visit Taiwan-held Kinmen and Matsu, but not other cities or counties in Taiwan.

Mobility platform Bolt reports significant growth in Thailand

The post Mobility platform Bolt reports significant growth in Thailand appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

Global shared mobility platform Bolt reported a significant increase of 103 percent in airport rides throughout Thailand in 2024.

This impressive rise is seen as proof of the increasing importance of shared mobility services to Thailand’s tourism infrastructure.

Bolt’s general manager in Thailand Nathadon Suksiritarnan said: “At Bolt, we are committed to making cities more accessible by offering alternatives to private car ownership. The ability to plan rides in advance not only upgrades the customer experience but also supports Thailand’s vibrant tourism ecosystem. Our solutions are tailored to meet the dynamic needs of travellers and businesses alike.”

A major need for shared mobility solutions

It has been noted in recent years that Thailand’s thriving tourism sector increasingly relies on shared mobility solutions such as ride-hailing.

These options offer travellers convenient and flexible transportation options, alternatives to taking public transport or calling an automobile-for-hire firm.

According to Statista, the shared mobility market in Thailand is projected to reach a revenue of US$11.85 billion within this year, with the bike-sharing segment alone expected to generate approximately $117.70 million by 2024.

These services bridge the gap between traditional transit methods and the evolving expectations of modern travellers.

Relevant solutions, better options

To meet rising consumer demand, Bolt has introduced new features to enhance the ride-hailing experience.

Customers can now book Scheduled Rides up to 90 days in advance, providing greater convenience and predictability.

This feature is particularly beneficial for Bolt Business customers, who can leverage the Ride Booker function for work-related transportation needs, including:

  • Reserving rides for business trips within the city to ensure timely arrival at meetings.
  • Arranging rides for company guests attending events or meetings.
  • Facilitating transportation for travel industry partners, such as pre-booked airport pickups for guests.

The shift to shared mobility options like ride-hailing aligns with Bolt’s mission to create cities for people, by reducing congestion and promoting efficient transportation.

By offering a seamless and reliable experience, Bolt encourages customers to embrace shared and public transportation options.

The seating proportion of low-cost carriers (LCCs) in South Korea’s aviation market has far surpassed the average of the Asia-Pacific region, according to an industry report, reflecting the popularity of budget airlines in the country.

According to the analysis report by aviation market tracker Center for Aviation, LCCs accounted for 45.7 percent of systemwide seats in South Korea, significantly higher than the average 32.1 percent for the Asia-Pacific region as of the second week of January.

The LCC seat proportion for international flights from South Korea came to 41.1 percent in 2024, up from 15.4 percent in 2015 and 36.5 percent in 2019, the report showed.

Domestic flights have seen similar growth, with LCCs representing 58.5 percent of seats in 2024, compared with 54.3 percent in 2019.

According to the report, Jeju Air, the country’s largest LCC, accounted for 11.1 percent of overall systemwide seats, ranking third only after the country’s two full-service flag carriers: Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.

The post Emirates Group gears for growth, unveils future-fit career and employee lounge appeared first on TD (Travel Daily Media) Travel Daily Media.

As one of the largest employers in Dubai, the Emirates Group plays a vital role in shaping the city’s growth, development, and people wellbeing. Reflecting Dubai’s drive to attract, retain, and cultivate the best talent from around the world, the Group has now unveiled a futuristic lounge at its iconic headquarters to serve global candidates, new joiners, employees, their families, and retirees.

Wejhaty, meaning ‘my destination’ in Arabic, was officially opened by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group, in the presence of executive leaders and employees.

HH Sheikh Ahmed said: “The Emirates Group’s next era will witness unprecedented global growth, right here from our Dubai hub. Powered by the sharpest minds and the latest technology, we’re reshaping and redesigning our organisation to gear up for this growth. Our focus is firmly on our own people, who are our biggest brand ambassadors and advocates.

Their safety, security, career development, professional wellbeing, and personal journeys are top priorities for us. Wejhaty will set new signature standards of service and excellence in people experience – for our employees, their families, new joiners, and those aspiring to be a part of the Group.”

Spread across a sprawling 22,770 sq.ft. space, Wejhaty is no ordinary employee lounge or one-stop shop. The space can serve 500 people at any point in time, 1,200 a day, and it aims to create an inspiring and welcoming space that reflects the Group’s people ethos. The focus is on elevating employee experience with streamlined solutions, advanced technology, and seamless, highly responsive services.

A personal touch is central to customer-focused organisations like the Emirates Group, which is why visitors to Wejhaty will be greeted, served and guided by friendly, supportive concierge service attendants.

Employee journey

In the bright, airy and spacious centre, employees and their families have access to the complete range of services – including biometrics, Dubai Health’s medical fitness tests and medical x-ray – plus HR, IT, payroll and cashier services. Wejhaty also houses third-party international visa services to cater to employees’ wanderlust and minimise pre-travel stress.

While parents are being served, their tiny tots can have a whale of a time, supervised by a nanny, in an imaginatively designed space packed with toys, merchandise and entertainment.

Teams within the Group have access to an amphitheatre-style, modular auditorium that can hold around 100 people – ideal for team-building activities, projects and training sessions. The auditorium houses high-tech audio-visual solutions, directional sound waves, online environmental data capture, and scalable technical capabilities.

Candidate journey

Candidates, both internal and external, can enjoy an integrated and stress-free experience as they meet the Group’s recruiters in state-of the-art spaces, including 19 discussion rooms that can accommodate 116 people at a time. Two assessment spaces that can host 46 people are where pilots, cadets and other specialist roles have dedicated facilities and advanced technology for simulation- and computer-based assessments.

Senior executives, cherry-picked for roles in the Group, will be welcomed in a tastefully appointed executive lounge, and in high-end meeting rooms offering the latest presentation tech.

New joiners’ journey

Highly specialised and fully immersive spaces will engage new joiners in the rich culture, powerful values, lifestyle and the future vision of Dubai and the Emirates Group.

Art installations and social spaces, including Emirates’ renowned Business Class seats fully kitted out with recycled materials from the airline’s retrofit programme, add touches of glamour and drive home the Group’s ethos on sustainability. Cool and modular seating dotted throughout the lounge, a pantry, lockers, and fashionable dressing rooms for uniformed employees, complete Wejhaty.

Wejhaty can host 400 candidates for interviews and assessments, 100 new joiners for corporate induction, and serve 700 employees and their family members every single day. Every year, on average, the Group processes 46,000 employee ID cards, 30,000 medical fitness tests, 8,200 UAE biometric registrations, and 3,400 X-rays for new joiners. Thousands of aspiring candidates are assessed at the Emirates Group headquarters annually.
