The 2025 Hong Kong-Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism / Architecture (UABBHK 2025) has officially opened to the public at the Oil Street Art Space in North Point and the East Kowloon Cultural Centre in Kowloon Bay.

Organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Biennale Foundation, with support from the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, the exhibition runs until 24 January 2026.

It invites visitors to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming architecture from a static practice into a civic performance.

TECHFORMANCE is key

This year’s theme, “TECHFORMANCE: Technology, Platform and Performance,” addresses global concerns about AI’s impact on authorship, ethics, and creativity in architecture.

The exhibition features 25 exhibits from local and international contributors, reframing AI as a platform for civic imagination and participatory design.

According to Hong Kong Institute of Architects Biennale Foundation chair Allen Poon: “Through UABBHK 2025, we aim to reclaim architecture as a human-centred discipline.”

Where co-creation matters

At the Oil Street Art Space, the focus is on “Co-Creation and Urban Narratives with the Community,” featuring interactive installations that engage with sound, movement, memory, and language.

Meanwhile, the East Kowloon Cultural Centre highlights “Experimental AI-driven Urban Futures,” with modular lab tables for collaborative experimentation.

Both venues are unified by a spatial design using aluminium extrusion, balancing cost-efficiency and elegance.

Exhibits from UABBHK 2025 will also be showcased at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture in Shenzhen, further reinforcing the cross-border dialogue between the two cities.
