THE NSW Government has allocated funding of $290 million to tourism and the wider visitor economy in its State Budget, announced today.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the government would continue to build on the success of 2017-18 which saw record volumes of international and domestic visitors and visitor expenditure for the state.
“This Budget will also continue this Government’s work to grow the visitor economy in the State’s rural and regional destinations which are now welcoming 29% more overnight visitors than in 2011,” Marshall said.
The funding includes $82 million to secure major sporting fixtures, arts and business events.
A further $54 million will be invested in promoting NSW to domestic and international markets, as well as to support tourism operators and secure strategic partnerships with airlines and trade entities.
The Regional Growth – Environment & Tourism Fund will receive $118 million for key tourism projects, while $7.5 million will go to programs to attract more visitors, events and conferences to regional areas.
