SYD CT screening

SYDNEY Airport has confirmed it is working with Smiths Detection on a live trial of Computed Tomography (CT) scanning of airline hold baggage.

The project involves Smith’s HI-SCAN 10080XCT system, and follows a successful pilot of CT-based equipment for carry-on bag screening at the airport.

The CT technology produces high resolution 3D images, and allows passengers to leave electronic devices and liquids in bags to simplify security checks.

Smiths Detection Australia/NZ MD, Jordan Thrupp, said “we are confident that our technology will provide a higher level of detection capability, speed up bag processing and help improve the airport’s operational efficiency, future proofing security operations for Australia’s major aviation hub”.
