Au-NZ backburner

NEW Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has indicated a trans-Tasman bubble with Australia may be “on the backburner for…several months”.

Speaking on NZ’s The AM Show yesterday, Ardern said “one of the things we said as part of our criteria was that anywhere we have quarantine-free travel, they have to be free of community transmission for a period of time, 28 days”.

“That is going to take a long time for Australia to get back to that place,” she said.

The NZ PM, who faces an election next month, has flagged the reopening of a travel bubble with the Cook Islands which is likely to be implemented before any travel from Australia.
