THAILAND: Nestled 190 km north of the bustling metropolis of Bangkok lies a tranquil retreat within the beautiful Khao Yai National Park – Hotel Mys Khao Yai. ‘Mys’ is a Scandinavian word which translates to ‘coziness’ in English. It was my observation that ‘Mys’ also promises relaxation and an escape from the rigours of everyday life.

The Skylight Pool, a cantilevered marvel of modern design. Made to resemble a clear mountain stream looking down into the world below.

Exclusively for adults, this boutique resort offers a sanctuary where guests can unwind amidst pristine surroundings. Our recent two-night stay provided a glimpse into a world of luxury coupled with nature – altogether peaceful and embracing, invoking a sense of wellness and calm.

Upon arrival, we were shown to our pool villa. The water was pristine and I immediately wanted to jump in! The saltwater pool, cocooned by high walls and greenery it was completely private and with its mountain backdrop it felt secluded and serene. A large sliding window opens to a bathtub, inviting indulgent pampering in the open air.

Apart from the full sized bathtub, the large marble bathroom has a separate shower-room, and a separate WC. Well designed and most comfortable.

The villa’s living room was well appointed with a bar, cosy settees, a second TV, coffee and tray tables. A great space to chill, watch TV, chat, play games or eat and drink.

Adjacent is the entrance vestibule with a tree swing!

Evenings were a culinary delight, where fine dining awaited. Truly a gastronomic journey,

with each dish a masterpiece in flavour and presentation. From tantalising starters to mouthwatering desserts, every bite was a revelation. The pièce de résistance? A warm quince pudding with wild blossom honey, butterscotch and homemade sweet corn ice-cream, a delightful naughty treat!

Morning dawned, and it was time for breakfast with organic and locally sourced produce. Afterwards a leisurely dip in the Skylight Pool, the resort’s signature glass-bottomed pool made from one large piece of acrylic over 10cm thick, that stretches out over the hotel entrance.

The Skylight Pool, is a marvel of modern design, one thinks of a clear mountain stream looking down into the world below, with V-shaped supporting pillars mirroring the branches of the forest.

The resort’s attention to detail was evident at every turn, from plush amenities, high-end equipment including coffee machine, kettle, Bluetooth speaker, large flatscreen WiFi TVs, power showers, deluxe hairdryer, L’Occitane toiletries, digital scales, cute flip-flops, slippers and the softest bathrobes I have ever worn! The bedroom was large with an equally large flatscreen TV with a rotating wall mount. The bedding and linen were luxurious and full picture windows brought the outside in. The windows flooded the room with light and slid open to the pool area and a fully enclosed small private garden. And for those like me that need darkness to slumber – black out curtains ensure a restful sleep.

Architecture at Hotel Mys Khao Yai seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings. Rooms are inspired by the forest, with the generous use of wood. Leaf patterns adorn screen-printed glass. The room has many natural accents and the use of warm hue ties the design naturally together.

As we bid farewell to this idyllic retreat, we reflect on its charms and impeccable service – a haven where luxury meets nature in perfect harmony. Hotel Mys Khao Yai is not just a destination; it’s an experience to savour, a sanctuary for the soul amidst the majesty of Khao Yai National Park.
