Qantas provides update on agent agreements
Qantas has revealed new multi-year agreements have been finalised with 10 of the top 12 travel agencies in its latest business update released this morning.
The news follows comments made by CEO Alan Joyce in Oct that Qantas would be renegotiating its arrangements with travel agents in a bid to cut costs.
“Qantas continues to work with travel agencies to reduce its selling costs while also creating better selling opportunities for these important partners,” the company said in a statement today.
The carrier also noted that a significant backlog of supplier payments and refunds have now been cleared and that by the end of the first half of 2021 it expects to be close to a breakeven point at the underlying EBITDA level, assuming no more material domestic border closures.
