New partnership with Aboriginal service provider KARI Foundation.
The Travel Corporation has just announced the first “artisan grant” in Australia under its TreadRight Foundation, with funding for the Sydney-based KARI Foundation to showcase authentic cultural experiences to the company’s customers.
The KARI Foundation aims to provide quality Aboriginal community support services, with a vision to help families, youth and communities flourish. The initiative will see Aboriginal artists engage with the tourism industry, with local artisans and cultural practitioners sharing their own stories and art forms.
Initially rolling out for Contiki clients, the program will also become available in the future to AAT Kings and Trafalgar guests, giving local and international travellers the opportunity to be taught by indigenous artists, take part in traditional art, and “learn about the meanings entwined in Aboriginal culture”.
The project supports Sydney’s Aboriginal community by offering an opportunity for economic self-determination, with the TreadRight grant providing employment for KARI staff and artisans.
KARI Head of Marketing & Partnerships, Cain Slater, said “we’re excited that this opportunity is set to have a lasting, positive effect on the locals, and inspire new Aboriginal enterprises to achieve economic freedom”.
