TD breaking news – Virgin adds New Zealand routes

Tasman revamp brings Queenstown and Wellington options.

Virgin Australia has announced two new trans-Tasman routes as part of a shake-up prompted by the demise of its partnership with Air New Zealand.

From 28 Oct, Virgin will begin up to five flights per week between Sydney and Wellington, as well as up to four flights per week between Melbourne and Queenstown.

It will also increase its Sydney-Auckland flights to triple daily on weekdays and double daily on weekends, as well as increasing Melbourne-Auckland to double daily and Brisbane-Auckland to as many as three flights per day on peak days.

Frequencies will be reduced between Melbourne and Christchurch and from Brisbane to Wellington.

The move follows Air New Zealand’s increased trans-Tasman scheduled announced last week.
