HOBBITS and cassowaries are rarely seen in the same location, which is a great shame given the digital effects available to modern film makers.
Yet both creatures are united this week in celebrating their ongoing existence and unique roles in the tourism industry.
Tourism Queensland has highlighted World Cassowary Day on Sun and is reminding motorists to slow down when driving in the bird’s forest habitat (though undoubtedly marvellous, the cassowary is notorious for having no practical road sense whatsoever).
At the same time, New Zealand’s Hobbiton Movie Set is today marking International Hobbit Day with a series of dusk events and special celebrations.
No advice for New Zealand motorists has been given.
