Travel Daily was among the first group of media to attend an exclusive preview of the brand new Air New Zealand lounge at Perth Airport today, ahead of a trade launch tonight and then a formal opening to the public tomorrow.
The lounge is located in Perth’s swanky new Terminal 1, behind a discreet sliding door which opens to reveal the look frequent Air New Zealand flyers have come to enjoy under the airline’s $100 million four year lounge rollout program.
The new Air New Zealand Perth lounge sits above the main terminal area, with guests able to look out over the hoi polloi from the comfort of a range of seating options. The lounge has various zones for dining, watching TV, working or just chilling out before the flight.
While evoking the earthly tones and colourful hues of New Zealand, the new lounge also features an intriguing light installation above the dining area, which brings some Western Australian flavour in the form of the iconic Wave Rock.
A lavish spread of dining options is on offer, as well as a well-stocked bar. The Perth lounge launch also coincides with the debut of Christchurch-based Hummingbird Coffee, an organic, fair-trade brand which is now being offered in all Air New Zealand lounges.
An array of work areas is on offer, with power outlets and USB ports for road warriors to boost their juice. And with the recent release of the iPhone 8, which supports wireless charging technology that has been available in Samsung and some other Android phones for some time, the lounge now features wireless charging stations as well as the familiar USB-port options.
The new lounge has capacity for about 110 customers, and follows the design template already rolled out in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as well as in New Zealand.
Passengers can relax and converse in the comfy areas, or take refuge in a cosy nook for some downtime.
Bathroom facilities feature showers for both men and women, as well as in a separate accessible bathroom, with all featuring Antipodes products.
The lounge also features signature Air New Zealand retro artworks, evoking the carrier’s pioneering flying glamour of a bygone age.
